This is jsut something I found recently but sort of has occured naturally in the past but not really taken note of it. The trick is simple:

  • Deploy a tornado or locust swarm
  • Transform it to the unit you want to slide around

    Thats it you have a unit sliding along the map in a straight line. The direction depends on the unit heading to a certain extent but it does vary lightly every time it is used.

    Note that locust swarm starts with a birth animation and therfore on transform units with no birth animation will not appear - tornado has idle animation. I assume crash units restriction still applies.




    Uses:

  • Creating cool sfx moving away from a point
  • Creating sliding barriers on a map
  • Sliding transport system?

    You could give the moving object a lifespan and events occur at the death of them by using search triggers to pick up a death created object when the object dies. Just thought I would share this with you guys because I see some potential uses of it - infact I have already used it once which was the sliding barriers use for a race map.

    Amazing great job here Nottud. So then, depending on its heading, the unit will go in the direction it was facing? So I could use unit heading to make it go the way i want right?

    Yea you can set the direction though it does vary a little but it always goe sin roughly the right direction - or at least it does for tornado not totally sure for locust swarm. The speed of the sliding unfortunately cannot be set either... or no way I know.

    There may be some other units that does this trick too - tornado and locust swarm are the two I know of.

    Yes it works online. I tried dust devil but it didn;t seme to work. That might be because I was deploying them as a player and they auto convert to nature. Will have to try deploying as nature and seeing what happens.

    Lol someone called the barriers on the map I have used it on as a battle boar volcano. It deploy battle boars on top of a hill that slide down and slide across the paths around the bottom of the hill getting in the way. Note that the hill is made of impassable terrain which makes the trick even mroe interesting

    A volcanoe, that would seem pretty neat.
    You could use Fire SFX's there and make them slide out as Fireballs.
    I guess you could make that huge Lava thingy slide out of a volcanoe too.
    The possibilities are always endless...

    A friend of mine found this trick a year ago, he was making random escapes and made plenty use of your transform trigger, he also found this when playing with a tornado + transform trigger.
    Sadly he stopped AoM, but i still got his scenarios

    I didn't know about the locust swarm yet
    But does it still damage villagers and farms when it's transformed?

    Currently working on:
    A pirate thing. Move the ship with the WASD keys, shoot with Q and E, stop with R. I need some help with bugged conditions and effects or other things I can't do.
    So hurry to the question/trigger thread, because there's probably a question I asked

    I think its the protounit itself that does the attacking so probably not. If you used it as a god power perhaps it might if you then transformed. I know tornado still damages when you transform but only if the new unit has area damage.

    Comfirmed by use of the protox - locust swarm and tornado are the only units the trick works for I am afraid.

    You can also create sliding barriers by bronzing hawks and transform armour glow small into something else.

    So the unit starts sliding and just keeps going until it dies?

    Yea or it goes off the map. If the unit does any normal interaction it also stops. Its a bit like the implode shockwave movement.

    Yes Yeebaagooon that also works but a little more compelex and not quite the same...
