Paradox Design Studios present...





Maybe some of you are thinking "What? Again?"... well, you're right, but this time it's different. Some of you played Brave Sword, some of you liked it and some dont. It's perfectly understandable. Anyway, I think that details are what make a scenario enjoyable or frustrating, sometimes little details. But in BS they weren't just little details, there where lots of bugs and fails in design!

So I decided to improve the scenario to near-perfection to make the experience complete, based on all the reviews and comments it received. Even some story parts and quests will be changed. Anyway, I will just show the improvements here, if you want to see more details about the scenario click the link below.

CAUTION: Spoilers below!


First here are some extra features I included in it:

1) Hotkeys are set automattically! bugless.
2) Balance have been improved, it was too easy.
3) Harder boss fights, MUCH more balanced.
4) Arena 10 round prize.
5) Changed quest for the Helepolis.
6) Call ship option.
7) Field quest has been changed.


UPDATE:

8) 4 DIFFICULTY MODES ADDED!
9) Teleport system totally changed, improving gameplay a lot...
10) Will points mechanic improved...
11) Trader mechanic improved...
12) Connection between these 3 mechanics totally revamped!
13) QUICKSAVE feature has been added!
14) Snow effects have been added!
15) An additional last quest was added!
16) A 3rd Stage was added to the final boss!
17) The final boss fight has been greatly revamped.
18) The Helepolis quest have been totally changed and improved.
19) Rebel mission has been balanced.
20) Transformation mechanic improved, now bugless!
21) Fire mechanic improved, now you don't get stuck while it fires.


UPDATE:

22) Added names to all the relevant units!
23) When given new objectives makes a sound and flashes.
24) Added many more effects to the final boss fight
25) Some dialogues has been improved.
26) Item costs have been balanced, were too cheap.


UPDATE:

27) Monsters that spawn at night don't fill the screen now.
28) You don't have to click relics to get'em.
29) One click to the temples trades all the will points.
30) A message shows when you have enough relics to trade
31) Some cinematics have been revamped.
32) More floating signs have been added.
33) Wood signs added throghout all the map.


UPDATE:

34) Spotlight has been added! Objectives improved too.

35) Dialogue have been added to almost all the NPCs in the game! That took some time.
36) Quests in Vault now give you will points
37) A new spiritual level has been added because of this.
38) Vale unit has been renamed, showing Sword level.


UPDATE:

39) Arena big update: 4 Modes added! (very cool)
40) Choice dialogue sequences improved.
41) Added animations to chests.
42) Quicksave can be turned on/off.

44) Made the statistics show without decimals.

Main bugs present in last version... note that ALL have been fixed:

1) Fatal hotkey bug - hotkey buildings were accidentaly destroyed.
2) Transform during ship halted game.
3) In the Arena, if you clicked 2 times the structure you got stuck.
4) Etztall boy, could build and could be killed.
5) Horse feature could be abused to kill every enemy without taking damage.
6) Teleportation instructions message didn't show.
7) Ship strayed too far and couldn't be found.
8) Following units stucked you.
9) Fire did too much damage to enemies.
10) Grammar problems!
11) You could control the pigs at the end of the pig quest.
12) Field quest didn't work.
13) You could destroy gates once they belonged to you.
14) The Arena dind't reset to round 1.
15) Helepolis was kept after it's quest finished.
16) You could research in the Granary.
17) You could access some towns at night.


UPDATE:

18) When units followed you you could get stuck.
19) You could upgrade a lancer and spend resources.
20) In some question triggers you got stuck
21) The horse race has been fixed.
22) In boss fights ambient sounds fired and hindered experience.
23) Minions died automatically giving you free exp.
24) Some triggers lacked priority slowing gameplay
25) The pigs of Vault didn't enter their den.
26) The temple of the Phoenix was inivisible (? but fixed)
27) Horse mode has too much armour in boss fights.

28) Grammar and spelling errors fixed!

29) Music after loading a saved game has been fixed.
30) Trader mechanic sometimes gave the reward twice.
31) Grammar and spelling errors fixed!
32) Rebel stronghold attacked your boat if near.
33) Floating signs fixed.

34) Hotkey mess bug now fixed!
35) Ruins gate could be opened with Helepolis
36) Metal race was too hard.
37) Save warnings removed as the quicksave has been implemented.
38) Caveman could become an ulfsark and build!
39) Ruins' 1st key could be grabed through the wall.
40) Second bomb expansion could be bought many times!
41) A minotaur in the Isle cave was stuck.


UPDATE:

-Thanks to Guard of Olympus for pointing these out:
42) Pigs were too slow.
43) Some chats changed to spoofed chats.
44) More grammar erros.
45) Behemoth regeneration.
46) In second dungeon a door could be opened without key.
47) Getting to level 2 was too hard.
- Many more, but I'm stopping here.

48) Big glitch, Vale sometimes got out of group 1.
49) More typos.
50) Huskarls could build.

51) Farmer sometimes didn't built farm.
52) Boulders could be destroyed with sword (in 3 hours)
53) Final boss too hard.


Note: As you can see, the more updates, less bugs playtesters find and less suggestions. That means that this is finally closing into perfection! :p May be released soon.

I decided to do this because I think BS would have been a much more entertaining expeirence if I had playtested it more time, I only playtested for one week, with the help of some playtesters. Still it wasn't enough, as the released version was filled with bugs, and some people even stopped playing from the first ten minutes. I think this is the way the game should have been released.

Sorry for the delay. But the main reason BS had so much bugs in the first place was because of hurrying up and not playtesting enough, so now it will be playtested a lot.

One more glitch that I'm not sure if you noticed. You can turn the horseman that leads you to the island with the Osiris piece box into a hero, and it costs favor.

Well you saw my review, I supported this alot from the start. It was my very first and best RPG game, Jondoom. I hope that by making improvements you dont mistakenly make it worse, some things in life happen like that. I look forward to this, and Jondoom, thanks alot, you inspired me to get into the RPG genre of AOM creation. This is the best RPG ever. Thank you.

-Dont take out anything good. That would just break my heart. Perhaps you could add special effects to the cinematics if it wouldnt trouble you.

Please tell me you've fixed the ending!

I never managed to figure out how to end it! It said to go back to the under world, and I was already there, and it never told me what to do! I never got to fight the last boss!

I enjoyed Brave Sword, however, there were many things that annoyed me in it. One was the repitiveness at the start. You had to go out, kill some enemies, then go back in and heal and do it again. Good luck to you with this one though.

P.S. Winston's laptop has been confiscated for quite some time meaning he can't play AOM.

    @CharlieDog: Yeah, it would be kinda difficult to change that. Nevertheless, I think I'm releasing both easy and hard version improved, so in the easy version you don't have to go back to the inns so often because you have more life.

    @andrewv42: Thanx! It's a shot from the actual scenario, Kram city to be precise You can see more screenshots in the original showcase, it's in my sig.

    @Alex_Of_Macedon: I'ts good to be back.

    Anyway, can someone give me ideas for a quest, please? You know, the ones who played BS already, the one to get the Helepolis. I think the race stuff was too much, two equal races in the game. So I wanted some ideas on how to make the quest to get the Helepolis... anyone?

    Check these out if you want to upgrade BS The Inventory Triggers They are very easy to use and are a must for rpg, oh wait you have been gone a while eh? Trust me and use them. As for quest why dont you make it that you go around and searching for these items 2 or 3 etc that once combined transform to a key that allows you to open a special chest and you get to loot an epic weapon or items... maybe a piece of wood or component the helepolis needs to operate and you go on any devious quest to find it(medium difficulty) or dude just look at other rpgs and get inspiration or ideas. Try final fantasy or Chrono Trigger

    If I were you Jondoom , which I am not, but nevertheless, I would.

    1) One, NOT add new things complicated like inventory triggers. The simplicity of the original and hotkeys is best I think. Wouldnt want to go to this new bravesword and find out that everything is chnged, and possibly not for the better.

    2) Just fix the bugs and balance and story issues, no need to overdo it, keep it gold. Too much new paint might make it look ugly.

    Winston has logic in his means however in my opinion...i know what your thinking.. here we go again but in all seriousness the update of it with all the bugs and issues erased there is still the question "Why not make it better?" Which is the exact point of an update. So make use of what is available now rather than 6 months ago! Great minds are at work here and currently opening up new possibilities for AoM design needless to say that in 6 months it will be all changed again! The update should feature the utilities of the here and now rather than just a tweak of originals. Don't paint it give it an entire makeover leaving the density of the story alone.

    I repeat that this is my point of view, Jondoom.

    HailToTheOboe made effects to create hotkeys to any key. You should check them out: Hotkey triggers (with game modes) To finalize my theory of Rpg improvement(lol) i would like to say this:

    "Take what you need and exclude the rest of critics, they are helpful to doubt or pester but for the best"

    I agree with both of you. I will not overdo it, as WinstonShnozwick said, Keeping the simplicity and ease of use is my objective with the controls, with the story just changing tidbits that will make it more beliavable, things like that. Obviously fixing all bugs at all costs. Now using new triggers like the inventory ones could be a possibility only if they improve the performance of the gameplay without hindering any other aspect of the game. If that's the case then I don't see why not use them.

    Hi folks! The post has been updated with my current progress on all the improvements and fixed bugs. I think I've added many great features to the game, and adding that all the bugs have been fixed, it's going to be a completely different experience.

    Anyway, If you'd like to playtest please tell me!!! I really need some playtesters and I'd be very thanfull if someone would like to help me with this.

    Anyone who would like to playtest, you're welcome! I need more playtesters to be able to release this on time.

    What do you think? Is it a good idea to release two times the same scenario but vastly improved? I just felt like doing it, but I'm sure there is a great result here. Hope you give it a try!
