Aaaa topic I'd like to discuss! With XP systems and hero leveling the question arises on how the players will be able to gain said experience and levels.
Some terminology:
- The Player/Hero can gather X amount of XP to reach the next level. In some scenarios it may increase, like for level 1 you just need 5 XP, for level 2 you might need more. In other games it's just reaching 100 XP.
- On reaching a level the hero gets some sort of reward, which strengthens his abilities.
So, what can the players do to gain XP?
- Existing. +0.02XP per second adds up over time.
- XP per Kill, easy to implement.
- XP for questing, either personal quests (just you) or the main quest (Everyone gets XP). Questing can be everything from gathering collectables, holding amounts of units or other resources, visiting old people or solving riddles.
- What else?
Pro/Contra of different approaches:
- Increasing XP required: Good for quick early game leveling.
- Constant 100 XP: You can utilize the Favor counter, grant resources -200 and grant QV(XPP1) favor to the player.
- XP for Existing: It does not feel rewarding if you idle around when you get your level up
- XP per Kill: Nice and easy, but you'll contest with your allies on the XP.
- Questing: How to balance?
