You could change the name of a unit type with the language.dll. Like Hoplite to *Enter name here*. It wont change just one particular unit though, but all units with that name.
You'll need Reshack or a hex editor though. Also, be sure to make a backup copy of your language.dll. And if you release your scenario with it, name it something other than "language.dll", like using the initials of your project in the name. (For example, if your project initials were KOT, call it "KOT_language.dll"). Then give people instructions to make a backup copy of their language.dll and tell them to rename your altered language.dll to "language.dll". Or make a .bat file which does it for them.
Is UltraEdit 9.20 32 bit version good at editing the files like this?

IMHO, this approach is a bit risky, though. Just two situations coming immediately to mind which may complicate things:
1) AFAIK different country versions of AoM come with different language.dll's (German, French, Spanish, you name it). How to cope with these?
2) Assume a user installs a scenario which renames the original language.dll and replaces it with its own version. Assume next that the same user installs a second scenario which again renames the (not-any-more) "original" language.dll and puts its own version in place. How can the setup be put into the original state afterwards?
This may work for users who know what they are doing but it may end up in a totally screwed installation for novice computer users.
I prefer the more simple answer: "No, it's not possible."

Thats sucks. Why the heck the developers decide to exclude something like that? you think they're saving something for the expansion?

They had problems implementing it so they decided to leave it out. It should be in an expansion if not it should be in a patch. And yes, it does suck.
This signature is currently out of order.

Just like in AoK If you look at the AoK editor there is no way to change a units name. But in the expansion there is

I believe the "customize unit" feature will be impletemented in a patch.

Hopefully this time it won't have to be a trigger effect, but just a feature of the editor. Example, when you select the object, you can rename it by clicking on it's name (like files in windows explorer).
BTW, the UI for the editor is very cool huh? Its just like windows.
