When creating a new texture for a unit, are you able to wrap it around a new unit without affecting the old unit? I tried creating textures for a new unit with new brgs (copied and renamed but essentially the same as the old unit) but even though i altered the ddts it appeared exactly the same as the old unit (although the portrait icon and icon changed but thats because i wrote them in proto.xml). Then i opened up all the unit's brgs with a hex editor and noticed they have a reference to the various brgs that make up the unit (these were the old brgs) at the very end of the file. So of course i changed these to the names of the new brgs (taking care to replace deleted characters with 00s). But still nothing happened. Is there something else that makes the unit use the new ddt? Is it possible to make a new unit without having to replace an old unit's texture? I know Izzy wrote a modding tutorial recently and i have read it, but that makes it seem like you have to replace Jason's texture to get him to look like Link.
Also is it possible to create an amphibious unit?
I tried editing proto.xml to have both land and water terrain types but it just chose the latter... does this mean that if aom encounters a second entry in a field it overwrites the previous one?
Well if it is possible to create a unit that walks and swims, would it be possible to create a unit that walks, but when it encounters an obstacle flies over it? (Kind of like the anubite maybe, but not just when attacking)
I guess this is probably a tall order. oh well.
