A mod from Purple Design Studios

The Roman Legionary is a single-unit mod brought to you by the modders of Purple Design Studios, and will be released for both vanilla AoM, and AoM:TT/Gold Edition, as with all of our projects. The unit may be featured in a future scenario project, with no specific plans yet.

This mod has many features, including the following:

  • Brand new historically accurate down to the weaponry models and animations
  • Detailed, hand-drawn textures*
  • Testudo formation (pictured below) created using unittransform technology
  • Unique historically accurate attack animation
  • Relatively low-polygon model for an enourmous amount of simultaneous units (338 polygons)

Oh be quite, we already know your opinion.

I am AgeofKnights, my orginal account was accidently deleted from the HG server, Vorpal Designs has shut down so I'm here as Darth Balor, If a mod/admin can change my name to AoK, or something like my orginal name I would appreciate it.

Yeah, it would be really stupid to release a big Roman modpack after already releasing a legionarius.

I like your idea alot. It's true the Romans adopted some of the Grecian deities. But they had their own style with them. Take my username. In the story of Persephone, it tells how Demeter mourned for her daughter. In the Roman version, it lists all of Cere's attendents and it takes awhile to get to Proserpina.
I think the Pryhian Victory settles the question of phalanx vs. legion.

You should seriously consider doing the Aenaid. It's right after the Trojan War, fits right in with contiunity. Just include Flora, Quirnus, and Janus, and it will be very Latin.

Thanks Prosperpina. And welcome to AoMH!

Good to see some history enthusiasts visiting the forums. I'm glad you like the Roman Legionarius. Soon to be officially announced, there is a new version of the legionnaire coming. It could be a ways off, but it could be very near..you'll never know.

We might do something with the Aeneid. It all depends.

Roman Legionarius v1.2 is on the way! With the following fixes:

    -Titans/History2/infantry.txt needed titans unit lines
-rm/Install.html needed to mention installation of startup/user.cfg

If it isn't up tomorrow, it will be up midweek.

Thank You! Is there private messaging on this board? I have this idea for an Amazon scenario.

The Aeneid is wonderful. The scene that sums it up to me is when Aeneas sees Alemanche (Hector's widow) and other Trojan refugees living in the past. He moves forward, symbolizing the transition of Greek to Roman power.
Then if you want to move even further down, Romulus & Remus' Mom is descendent of Aeneas & Lavinia. Up to the Celtic burning of Rome, their history is mythology.

So what have you tested your Legions on? I'm guessing sad Pyrrhus.

I'm not sure what you mean by what have we tested our legions on. This is a new unit in the game, not necessarily a campaign. There will be a related mod with a related campaign sometime in the future. Keep your eyes peeled.

How else do you know how strong they are in comparison to other units then?
I will keep my eyes open. You are an inspiration.

The Forums Boards do have Private Messaging, and we test all our units against other Age of Mythology units for balance.

Although unfortunately, the legionarius has been found to be a tad overpowering against buildings.
