Hey, everyone, since the conversion of the 3D models is pretty much finished, I decided to create a new Topic. Here I will discuss the Aztecs mod, and post screenshots.
-Research-
I have been reading several books on Aztec, Mayan, Mixtec, and the Inca mythology, and I was lucky enough to have an Inca and Mayan exhibition in my city at the moment.
There was always a bit of a discussion about the timeline and how, Aztecs were quite modern compared to the other civilizations in the game.
Although there is quite a bit of truth in that, the Olmec and several other city states are far older than Aztec's and according to the manuscripts and carvings, some of the Gods, and creatures appear in multiple number of civilizations.
Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca, Tlaloc, Xipe Totec are some of them.
Gods
For the time being, I am using various images from AOE III. You can expect to see most of well known Aztec Gods. I am not going to reveal their names just yet, but it was quite difficult to create a diverse roster.
Aztec's had at least 5 Sun deities, and 3 Moon deities. There are a multiple number of Nature and agriculture gods, and 9 Lords of the Night. I eventually, picked the myth units first, and picked the appropriate god later.
-Myth Units-
-Place Holder Models-
Aztec legendary creatures and myth units are usually not very well known, some of them are not even listed in the Wiki page, other's usually are not even named.
Let's start with the obscure:
Serpent, Lizard, and the 3 Dogs: According to the Aztec mythology, journey to the land of the dead took 4 years, and it was full of many perils. First the souls had to protect themselves against the Mictlān serpent, then the giant Lizard. When they reach the final river, they encounter three dogs, black, white and the yellow. Yellow Dog helps them cross the river into the Mictlan. [Some of these are also mentioned in the Aztec Calendar]
In addition to these 3 dogs,Xolotl dog guides the souls in their journey into the afterlife.
Human headedBat: Although these bats are not named in the Aztec Mythology, several Mixtec manuscripts portray these creatures. They were known as Camazotz in Mayan mythology. They are hostile creatures that inhabit the underworld.
3 servants of Tezcatlipoca:Fish-woman[Sea woman or Mermaid, in some versions], Crocodile Woman, [Water Monster, or Cipactli in some versions], Turtle, [Shell-woman or conch-woman in some versions.]
AnthropomorphicMoon Rabbit: I already mentioned that there were at least 3 Moon gods, they are Metzli, Tēcciztēcatl, Yohaulticetl and Coyolxāuhqui. According to various texts, gods punished the secondary sun god Tēcciztēcatl, by throwing a rabbit at his face and dimming his light. As a result he became the lunar deity.
Note: Various Aztec myths downplay the importance of the Moon, and in their myths Moon is usually compared to the Sun in a negative way. Sun God Huitzilopotchli, murders his sister Coyolxuhqui the Moon Goddess. Every night Moon and the her brothers fight against the Sun and try to defeat him. While the Solar gods are usually revered, Moon is usually associated with death and darkness. -Aztec Myths also mention Centzon Tchtin, the divine rabbits that frequent drunken parties, but I don't know much about them.
Tzitzimitl: Skeletal Female Deities associated with Stars and darkness. They are also associated various Goddesses [Coyoluhqui, being one of them]. During the solar eclipse they attack the sun, and possess men.
Cihuateteo: Evil female spirits that died during childbirth.
Quinametzin: Giants from the Aztec Mythology.
Nagual: More of a concept than an actual legendary creature. Shamanic beings that can transform into various animals. [Were-Jaguars, Wolf people, and the Human-Birds]
Ahuizotl: Legendary water-dog, associated with Tlaloc. Known to grab people using its hand located at the end of its tail.
Cipactli: The divine Crocodile, earth was created from its body parts.
Xiuhcoatl: The fire serpent of the god Huitzilopotchli.
-Buildings-
I am mostly happy with the design of this civilization. There is only one Age variation at the moment, and the Team colours are not applied to the buildings yet.
Buildings in the Aztec home city from AOE III are now more than just a glorified menu background decoration!
-Units-
Converted Aztec infantry units. Villagers are still not ready, but everything else is pretty much done.[Models, animation, sound, proto files etc]
I have been a bit busy for the last couple of weeks, so hopefully I will gain speed and do more modding in the upcoming weeks.
