So, two years ago ES released the followup to their award-winning RTS game Age of Empires. The game was given excellent reviews. I, looking for a game to buy, was struck by the excellent graphics, the great historical accuracy and the promising gameplay. I bought it and it turned out to be the best game ever (for me). I bought the expansion and I'm still playing it; it's just so great and damn addictive as well.
And now, instead of taking the series to even a higher level by creating AoE3: The Age of Colonization (or so), ES is making a pitiful ripoff of the series. Theme: fantasy meets history. Weehoo.
What we've seen so far included some poorly-drawn ships, some butt-ugly soldiers and some horribly uninspired monsters.
So now we can play with a stupid sea monster, giants and a sfinx. How cheesy. How stupid. The damn sfinx has just been ripped from the well-known statue, while the Viking and Greek civs are merely ported from AoE and AoK. I bet they've scribbled the game down in a few minutes.
Exactly who's gonna buy this? 10 year olds, who actually like a game with giants and trolls? Is this ES's idea of making quick money? Do they think this game can actually compete with EE? I know which of the two I'm buying.
I suppose they just didn't dare to take the challenge of taking AoE further into the future. Still, they wanted to make a game, so they came up with this lame crap. Boy, am I looking forward to commanding armies of unicorns and trolls.
Ok, let the flames begin. Say I'm being preposterous or so, but in my opinion the entire idea stinks.
