Hello, I am fairly new to this forum but I want to gather up in one place all the tricks and tips I have heard since I started playing. Many of these will be basic tricks for most veterans but for newbies like me they will help a lot. For all you veterans, this is your chance to show off your knowledge of the game
There was a similar thread a few weeks ago, but I would like to post an official compilation of these tricks and stuff, with better spelling/grammar/punctuation then you would normally see. Don't be surprised if you see a tip you have shared with someone pop up on here. If you post a tip I will add it to this post, with credit if you want. If everyone contributes what they know, then maybe this thread will be a success.
Anyways, here are some tips I have learned from these forums or through experience:
- If you farm an opponent's farm, they become yours. This means you can delete them. If you send a few villagers in with military units, the military units will absorb the arrow fire from any nearby TC's and chase away their villagers. This allows your villagers to creep in and farm, which you can then delete. Works well against Atty (farms cost 200 wood).
- As Odin, send your herdables to a group of wild animals before casting Great Hunt. This will increase your food gain (Usually. Read HailToTheOboe's analysis on the first page for a more indepth analysis.)
- An empowered building shoots twice as many arrows.
- When building a wall, double click to build two overlapping wall stumps. This works well to surround fortresses, migdols, etc. because it forces your enemy to destroy each stump if they want to be able to surround your fortress. It takes a lot of micro to make but a lot of micro to destroy. It is also very cheap.
- The AI will move through gaps in walls, no matter how inconvenient. If you put many towers in this gap they will have a hard time getting to your base.
- If you click Great Hunt and hover in the area that is black just around your base, you will be able to cast the godpower if it includes animals in its range. This is useful for finding out animals that may be just out of range very early in the game. (Don't cast it, it may be just herdables)
- Mummies can convert Hippolyta. (not in fan patch)
- Ceasefire prevents the building of arrow towers and fortresses. This can occasionally come in handy when you notice your opponent has 10-15 villagers building a Migdol or something. Often they don't realize that their gatherers have just been sitting there building fruitlessly for 60 seconds.
- Colossi have 80% pierce armor, making them very good against Egyptians, who aside from Son of Osiris, only have ranged heroes. Nemeans rexes are also good in this respect.
- Hydras get one head every three kills but their attack increases after each kill.
- Relic Monkeys and Golden Lions (also from a relic) have no counters and no pop. Though stil very weak, they are good sentries for gold mines.
- Ancestors is very powerful when used with Eclipse.
- Son of Osiris and Nidhogg can be killed with Zeus' Bolt.
- Pharaohs can empower markets.
- Catapults and other seige weapons are good against Titans, because Titans are large targets with low seige armor.
- Titans are myth units, which means they get benefits from upgrades which affect myth units. The god power Eclipse will boost their attack by 50 points. Hera's monstrous Rage will boost attack 25% and Hekate's Mythic Rejevunation allowsyour Titans to regenerate. There are many more.
- With Osiris, research the New Kingdom technique to get two Pharaohs. Then use your Son of Osiris power on your second pharaoh to get 2 pharaohs and a Son of Osiris.
- Shifting Sands can move enemy units (up to a small amount of hitpoints) so if you can isolate an important enemy unit, e.g. a Son of Osiris, use the power to put him where he can be easily killed or can do no harm, like a cliff on Alfheim.
- If you send 4-5 units to attack villagers near a gold or wood mine before casting Locust Swarm, it will screw up their pathing so that they cannot get away and the swarm will kill most of them.
- Rain affects real-life fishing.
