As we know, Age of Mythology does not have stone. As we also know, fortifications now cost wood.
What does this mean?
Simple. Stone was the rarest resource in Age of Kings. Each tile contained only 350 units of stone, and each player only recieved 11 tiles of stone; whereas each tile of gold contained 800 units of gold, and each player recieved a *minimum* of 18 tiles of gold. And of course, even on Arabia, wood is abundant, and takes at least an hour or more to run out.
So, as I said, stone was the rarest resource in Age of Kings. In most games, the player could only afford to build a small number of castles as a result of this, since it was only feasable to buy a limited amount of stone; beyond that prices could be driven as high as 230 gold for 10 stone.
Yet Age of Mythology's fortifications will not be reliant on stone for construction! Wood must assumedly be abundant; in order to build archers/warships/siege weapons/other buildings/farms and the like. So therefore wood is also abundant to build defenses.
So therefore; defenses in Age of Mythology will have to be either a) very expensive or b) very weak. Another thought that just occurred to me Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on the fact that fortifications cost wood?
