Has anyone else noticed that all possible 9 minor gods for the greeks have already been used in the Poseidon and Zeus showcases, they are :

Artemis
Athena
Apollo
Aphrodite
Ares
Hermes
Dionyssus
Hera
Hephaestus

So does this mean that Hades wont get a unique minor god ? If he does then who will it be ? Maybe Demeter, Atlas or Triton. Also, do you think he will get Pegassus like his brothers or do you think he might get Cerberus as his MU.

Assuming 3 gods and 9 minor gods per culture, Hades doesn't have a unique minor god, which means we know the most likely choices for all his minor gods. Hell drew together a projection of Hades' likely gods which I stuck on the Hades cultures page. There was some debate about Hesphaestus being available to all three gods but we've had a fair bit of evidence to say that it's logical. The rest of it is simple logic going by what's available to Zeus and Poseidon.

Excuse me Stone Minotaur but I didn't say that that was all the greek gods I knew it's just that they are the most famous of the unused gods.

P.S You missed...
Persephone(wife of Hades)
Asclepius(son of apollo)
Hecate(magic and ghosts)
Pan(pastures)
Prometheus(fire god)
.......

Not to mention the Titans, Eos, Gaia, Kronos..........

It is very likely for Hephaestus to be for all three Greek gods, not only from other info. but Hephaestus was the blacksmith of the gods, i.e. he did stuff for all of the gods.

Throbin, Persephone, Pan and Prometheus were not gods. Persephone was human, Pan was a Satyr, and Prometheus was... er... somekind of giant or something, can't remember but he wasn't a god.

Persephone wasn't human. She was the goddess of the seasons (or summer or something). She was the duaghter of a goddess, and the wife of a god. Usually that makes her a goddess.

That's why you should never assume. Hwo said that? I can't find it anywhere.

BTW, Prometheus was either a gorgan or a titan.

Sun Tzu said it in the Art of War for one, though he contradicted himself later on...

Anyway, yes assuming is bad. However if one culture gets one more god, then one culture gets one less. With only 8 minor gods in a culture, all three gods would be forced to share exactly the same minor gods for one of the three ages. I doubt ES want to do that, which is why it's safe to assume that there's 9 minor gods and three major gods per cultures, making 12x3 = 36 gods, which is a verified fact.

Who's to say that Hades is supposed to get a minor deity all to himself? We know that Loki gets a unique minor deity and that Odin and Thor don't. So what? No major deity is entitled to a unique minor deity.

As said, Zeus gets a unique deity. Loki must work exactly the same. It means that in the age that Loki has his unique god, the other choice he has must be available to all three gods. This is exactly the same as Hesphaestus (available to all three) and Hera (available to only one) with the Greek gods. However having a unique deity does not equal the same choices for every god in the same age.

Whereas with 8 gods, no matter how the choices are made all three gods will have the same choices in one age. With a unique minor deity, only two gods will have to share the same choices, not three.

Here's a crappy pic I made explaining it visually: http://www.someplacesomewhere.com/uploaded/TheShadowDawn/gods.jpg

(Moreover I just realised that if Loki has a unique minor deity then the Norse must logically have 9 gods [lest they again have the same choices for every god...in more than one age] so that's several pieces of evidence towards the fact that there can only be 9 minor deities per culture.)

(Note to self: Really must get around to reinstalling PSP or office...paint just doesn't cut it.)

Regarding all the "who was a god?" discussion....

You guys need to remember that there was no such thing as an official mythology. Mythology did not unfold in real time, where some event happened in 450 BC and then another happened in 400 BC. They were stories, largely told through oral tradition, and as stories they changed and evolved over time.

Egyptian mythology has this "problem" to the greatest degree, perhaps because of its age, perhaps because religion was so important to the Egyptian civilization, or perhaps just because modern Western civilizations have more in common with the Greeks or Norse. There are many different versions, where different gods take on different aspects depending on the exact story.

Read reply #10. There's little chance that each culture has more or less than 9 minor gods.

maybe Hades was the reject, the outcast. Maybe he was lonely. Not even his wife wanted to be with him all year round.

Maybe he doesn't get any minor gods to help him.

What makes you think that there is a set number of minor gods!? The max number of unique minor gods for 1 god is 6. For all we know, Hades has 6 minor gods only he can choose from. How do you know he doesn't?

Quoted from ES's Zeus Page:

Three pantheons, times 3 different gods avaliable in each of 4 ages...

http://www.ensemblestudios.com/aom/zeus.shtml

ES says that there are three gods per age per culture. That comes out to twelve gods per culture, including 3 major and 9 minor.

There's the quote you asked for; I'm not going to repeat all the reasoning put forth by everyone else. (You really should look at Reply #10; it may be a bad paint document, but it gets the point across.

It says there are 33 Minor gods (36 gps, - 3 maj. gods) per culture (or at least the greeks), divided by 3 is 11 minor gods per maj god. Which is at least 3 unique min. gods per maj. god, plus 2 shared. But since we know that Pos. & Zeus have 3 shared, that gives 1 MORE unique minor god to hades...

I think...

Me confused. I hate math...

No...3 gods per age is

3 major gods
+ 3 minor deities from the Classical Age
+ 3 minor deities from the Heroic Age
+ 3 minor deities from the Mythic Age
= 12 gods. Per culture.

12 x 3 = 36 gods all up.

36 gods powers take away the major gods is -9, not -3...leaving 27. 27/3 = 9 minor gods.
