I'm getting a new comp in December. Hopefully AoM can run on my piece of crap until then. Gilles_de_Laval, how much did it cost. I'd love to have a comp like that.

Lief - about $3k US; they are probably cheaper now
you get a lot more bang for your buck with a desktop, but then you cant sit outside and play AOM over your wireless card

how do u play an rts game on a laptop? i mean, the little tiny ball as a mouse, with no right and left click, must be frustrating.
plus the tiny keys.

On newegg I priced out the fastest system you could possibly build right now.
p4 2.53 ghz gigabyte motherboard 512 mb pc800 ram 120 gb hd Coolermaster aluminum pc case geforce ti4600
assuming you have the keyboard, mouse and speakers, I recon this goes for around 1600-1700 I might have to go with this in a couple months, but this upgrading every 6 months is getting a bit pricey.

Here's what I got:
Sony Vaio AMD Athlon 4 1.2 GHz 384 MB 8 MB Video(which is what scares me)
EE runs on this but not beautifully, but what about this? Is it doable? I plan on getting a customized CPU in a few months with a top of the line Geoforce in it

Well...I didn't get the alpha, but I plan on buying a new computer around the same time that AoM comes out. I did the same thing with AoK, and with AoE. The release of one's favorite computer game is always a great time to buy a new computer.

AMD K7 XP - 1.9 GHZ PR Rating(1.6 GHZ actual clock speed) 512 MB DDR RAM (266 MHZ) nForce Graphics - GeForce2 (32 MB dedicated video memory) 19" monitor 80 GB Hard Drive CD-RW DVD-ROM Generic everything else(modem, speakers, etc.)
The integrated nForce Graphics seem to be performing along the lines of a GeForce2 MX 200 (32MB) in actual performance. I might upgrade to either a GeForce3 Ti 200 or a Radeon 8500 LE 128 MB eventually, although not just for AOM.
The whole setup cost me $1028. Buying a new video card will take it to a little over $1100.

I just made a recent upgrade:
- $90: Alluminum Case - $230: GF4 4400 - $60: 80Gig WD - $130: 1.7 Ghz AMD XP 1900+ (OC-ed to 2100+) - $120: Epox Motherboard - $40: Volcano 7+ CPU Fan - $80: 512MB PC2100 RAMS
I might forgot others, but it runs around 700-800 dollars. I also have the Klipsch 5.1 speakers ($400). Hopefully AOM supports surround sound; that would be cool.

I'm going to build a new system this weekend, when my camp ends.
Athlon XP 2200+ nForce 420D chipset 1024 megs PC2100 DDR SDRAM GeForce4 Ti-4400 Some random 80 gig, 7200 RPM harddrive
It looks like that will cost me about $800, including a new case, power supply, cooling equipment, and shipping.

Good for you Cherub you are athlon man like me
Psst to the guy with vaio: I think u can run AOM on your laptop if you get that weird nvidia cpu that they say is specialized for graphics, well at least my dad got that and nwn plays like a charm on it (neverwinter nights).
An advantage of me having no alpha: I will have btter comps than u ppl cos i won't upgrade till AOM is out itself which means you comps will be 3 months older than mine GUAHAHAHA

I need to get a new laptop for school next year. Working away on my parents and trying to convince them a new top of the line comp is better then the broken school ones.
Oh, and you may as well get the best at the time, or it's a waste of money
I don't buy new computers. I upgrade my existing one. It's cheaper and I don't know what kind of computer I got (it was handmade by some computer genius) but with some upgrades it can take anything I can throw at it. ANYTHING!

I just purchased a new one recently as part of my normal upgrade cycle.
I tend to upgrade my existing computer until I can not take it any further. Then I wait until new programs start to run poorly, and purchase a new one.
I will build my next one.
