Over the past several months we've had a lot of threads about x-pac civs. Hopefully one of you can convince me that a x-pac that adds a new culture would be good. Well, maybe I'm wrong. Some of these ideas probably are possible, but I just don't see any of them happening. Agree? [This message has been edited by CC_Straight_Og (edited 07-15-2002 @ 06:52 PM).]
I'm sad to say I haven't seen a really good x-pac culture ideas yet.
IMHO, I don't think we'll be seeing an entire new culture in the x-pac. Maybe more minor or major gods for the existing cultures though.
I'll state my argument against some of the most common x-pac ideas.
It has lots of diverse and interesting deities, it'll admit that. However, it's a religion which is currently practiced. MS wouldn't go for it and a lot of people would be turned off by it (potentially including 1 billion Hindus).
Sacrificing enemies would be cool, but isn't this basically what the Norse do to gain favour? Also, it would be difficult for MS to market it. ES has already done an Aztec x-pac and some fans want to see something totally new.
This seems the most viable IMHO. I'm don't know a lot about it though. Is this still a praticed religion? It might not be well known enough to sell well. I wouldn't expect it to go over too well with Korean agers.
There already is one...Egypt. The Nubians have been suggested, but they are too similar to Egypt. No african civs besides Egypt are well known enough to sell to the average gamer.
The worst idea I've ever heard in these forums. Any game that has the word "Israel"
They have an interesting mythology, but many people still follow native religions. Also, half of native myth creatures are already in the game as gaia units (wolf, bear, etc).
Not very well known and doesn't have much marketing appeal. Might be interesting though...
Another one that seems almost viable, but most people have no knowledge of Celtic mythology besides knowing the words "druid" and "banshee".
Any comments, ideas and flames are most welcome.
