Tried it out a couple times against a moderate CPU, and found it could be done. So then I took it online. These were my rules:
1) Can only use villagers, priests, pharoah, and your free myth units you get when you age. No other myth units or any type of military unit.
2) OK to build offensive buildings.
3) OK to upgrade priests through the armory.
4) All other upgrades (Crenallations, Masons, etc) are ok.
5) OK to use god powers.
Played two games online and won both. It's more of just a way to have some fun, and it makes for incredibly challenging games. If Ra could advance through Nepthys this could almost be a viable strategy to use all the time -- villagers are dirt cheap and have very nice stats. Priests are basically expensive slingers, though their armor sucks and armory techs are a must.
If anyone is interested, here's the two games I played online: Granted, neither of my opponents were all that good, and the first guy resigned too early I think. Would really like to see rec games of other people playing this strat, so I can see how to improve it Things I learned so far: Again, this isn't meant to be a serious strat, so don't bother flaming that "This won't ever work at the 1700 level!!" I know it won't. I also know I got fortunate by having two norse opponents. It's just for fun [This message has been edited by discordant (edited 03-26-2004 @ 01:04 AM).]
-better to use priest for scouting, really need to get obelisks by all the settlements.
-build lots of priests. They not only have decent attack when massed, they heal and they tear up myth units.
-really have to keep an eye on all battles. Villies, even when you tell them to attack, have a tendency to run off and hide in the corner when they get hit. Probably could fix that by changing their default behavior to "Aggressive".
