First of all, all that camera moving and cinematic stuff should be taken out. I know it's dear to you, but really, it just wastes time.
Also, get rid of the conditions and effects that aren't really needed. I thought AoK had a good number of them, but the AoM editor has lots that aren't really important.
There are some other borderline things, like being able to rotate buildings, that eat a lot of time but don't really contribute to scenario design.
Finally, get rid of the whole radius system and go back to tiles, for everything. This would speed things up considerably.
So, yes, I seem old fashioned and backward, but you can't deny that if the editors keep getting bulkier and fancier, the quality of scenarios is just going to go down. Take Age of Empires for example. By not giving the designer much power to begin with, they made it easier to utilize the editor fully.
