THE LOST LEGION

"One moment, they stood under the skies of Gaul, facing each other in a strange duel of survival. In the hand of the Roman tribune Marcus Scarus was the spell-scribed sword of a Druid priest. The Celtic chieftain Viridovix held a similar sword, bespelled by a rival Druid sorcerer. Then, as the two swords touched, a dome of golden light flared out and surrounded Marcus, Viridovix, and three cohorts of Caesar's legions. The next moment, they found themselves under a strange night sky where no stars were familiar and where Gaul and Rome were unknown. They were in an outpost of the embattled Empire of Videssos - in a world where magic and dark sorcery would test their skill and courage as no Roman legion had ever been tested before."

Sorry, I can't use MSM, if you want conctat me at quoelet(at)katamail(dot)com .

Well, my collaborator\traslator is taking a very loooooooooooooooooooong time to traslate the map and so I want to post a little taste .
It's a WMV file 7 minutes long of 10.7 MB (probably DivX 5.2.1 Codec required) with a low resolution to limit the filesize that represents the ending cinematic of the map.

The WMV video has been created with a tecnique very similar (but faster) to Antisback's one

10.7 megs?! Good Gravy! How big is the whole scenario?

EDIT: By the gods! That was amazing Oscar, couldn't really tell what was going on but it sure looked good. Were the dialogues in English in the video?

That's an amazing trailer! It look better than ES's cinematics, and they designed all the animations specifically for their campaign. I hope the gameplay is even half as good as the movies. In any case it's the coolest thing I've seen here in a long time.

One question - could you upload a higher-quality version of the file? This one is kind of blurry in places.

wow, I love the music. What is it? I recognized some of it was from Ennio Morricone's soundtrack to The Mission. Was it all Ennio Morricone? Whatever it was, damn was it appropriately chosen.

That has to be one of the best movies I have ever seen even rivaling movies that you go to pay for at the cinemas.

Come on and get this translated. I can not wait much longer.

I havent been able to close my mouth since. I never knew my mouth could drop so low. It was beautiful, I love the part where the titans are created.
You make cinematics better than ES IMO and the cinematic models were made for the ES campaigns. I bow to your scenario desgining skilles excelence.

Yes, the last one is by Ennio Morricone.
In the ending cinematics there are 5 mp3 files.
1) Preparations for Battle by James Horner (Glory Soundtrack)
2) Euro Battle 1 (taken from Medieval Total War)
3) Resurrection by John Debney (The Passion soundtrack)
4) Charging Fort Wagner by James Horner (Glory Soundtrack)
5) The Mission Theme by Ennio Morricone (The Mission soundtrack)

If anyone want one of these file can download the Italian version of the map here

Sorry I can't. Now the video has a resolution 320x240 pixels and is about 12 mb big.
If I increase the resolution just to 640x480 pixels the video would be 79 mb big and with my 56 Kb/s (and temporary) connession I would take 3 hours and 21 minutes to upload it .

Quote:

what method did you use to make that trailer? you said you used a more advance way than Antisback. really man, nice cinematic!

the 1st time I've tried Antisback's method but I found a very big problem. Antisback says in his guide to use this trigger:
Name: Sceenshot_trigger_take
Trigger:Loop
Condition:Timer ms; 100ms
Effect:Screenshot

Well, this is a very good way to "capture" all the necessary clips to create a SHORT video.
Why?
The problem is the number of the screenshot to manage. There are in fact 10 screenshots for every second, in a minute there are 10x60=600 screenshots and in my case (about 7 minutes) there are about 4200 screenshots to assemble.
And why 4200 screens are a problem?
This is a part of Antisback guide:

"Click on the zoom in button as many times as you can

^^The Zoom in button^^

Your pictures should now be really long, click on the little arrow at the side and make the picture as short as you can, do this for all of them.

^^The Little Arrow(you need to click on the picture to get the arrow up)^^"

do this for all of them. ONE BY ONE 4200 screens?!?!?!??!?!?!?
To solve this problem I've download a video captor shareware screenVirtuoso that "captures" directly the video and not the screens.
Unfortunately this program often produces video with a speed that doesn't correspond to the real one and so it's necessary another program to edit the speed/lenght of the video (I've used "Video Edit Magic" that unfortunately is not a freeware and its trial version sucks a little...).
Then like Antisback I've used Windows Movie Maker to assemble the different videos and to add them the soundtrack.

By the gods, your trailer is spectacular. The cinematics are MIND BLOWING. Wow, its like a movie! You even included the 'over the top' angle many filmmakers use. You rule!

I have jsut downloaded the trailer also. It was absolutely fantastic. Never seen anything like it in all my years of scen design. By far excells the AOM campaigns (not that this is difficult) by 500%. Fantastic work and the music you've choreographed it to is amazing. I thought that was the passion of the christ soundtrack, it suited so well. I cannot wait until the english version is released and i assure you i will be there first to download it.

Oscar, get Fraps, it's an awesome video capture software that doesn't slow it down (just set it to 30fps, which should be good enough).

Thanks Elpea, fraps is the fastest program to capture a video. So I've just completed other 2 version of the "trailer".
1)low resolution (320x240 pixels) (WMV file, 17 MB):
http://creare.altervista.org/The_Lost_Legion(ending_cinematic).zip
(this version replaces the old one and is a little better)
2)high resolution (640x480 pixels) (WMV file, 34 MB):
http://creare.altervista.org/The_Lost_Legion (ending cinematic) High Resolution.zip
(in this version the dialogues have been traslated and are legible)
(if the links don't work don't click on the links but copy and past them)

There is a little problem: to use fraps I've istalled the latest nvidia drivers and the water has become black....

11.4mb of the high res one done. I cant wait to see it in high res.

I have a question, will the game have voice acting? I assume not since thaat would require a lot of work for two languages but it would be really cool

Just saw the ending cinematic. It's awesome! When you finish translating it, I'm sure it'll be one of the best.

Little suggestion though: The part where Gargarensis is killed - he falls over and half his body is hanging over the cliff like a stick. Have you tried using the animation used in the ending of the ES Campaign? Where he's on his back? It might look better - I'm not sure.

Just wondering but how many scenarios is this? Is it just one big map? Also, are there any mods being used? Some of the objects seem from not the game - or I could be forgetting. lol

I love your map design skills (greatest I've ever seen)

I really look foward to this!

BTW I made a video with fraps and I was wondering how you got the video such good quality and so small in size? (my video ended up being 410 MB! and it only went for 2.30mins)If I make it MPEG then you cant even tell whats happening at all.

Can't wait till this scenario comes out well done!

No, the zip archive is already 8 mb big

Well, that animation is really good but in my cinematic is Amanra that kills Avshar (=Garganensis) jumping against him. If I want to use the animation I should know also the right istant Amanra hits Garganensis. It is not impossible to find it but I've really no time...

The huge file dimesion of fraps file is normal. To solve the problem load your videos with moviemaker (there are some standard file sizes, for example 11 mb, 17 mb, 34 mb, 79 mb)

Now some news about traslation...not good ones.
I haven't receveid news from my traslator for 2 weeks, probably he is too busy because of school (like me ).
I really don't know when the English version of the scenario will be ready, maybe after Xmas. Sorry.

Download 7zip, with this program you can make self-extracting archives that'll shrink the size down to at least 3 or 4 MB.
