I think that the AoM game didn't receive the deserved attention from ESO, and it has been an in between project ~ in between AoE's games.
There was only one cd expansion the Atlanteans which moved the game to the Titan level. Other than that, any advances made to the game, where made notable due to the efforts of such individuals as Reyk (I'm only naming him because of the editor), and many many others whose names I don't want to list - lest I forget anyone.
I remember that the other game I liked a lot and played for 1 year, Cossacks, which wasn't such a big hit, issued also an expansion (really just a mod with some extra units), plus offered a cd collection of many many "best" scenarios made by people in the forum. Then CossacksII came out that was a big rebamp of the game and I think it was based on a mod made by some forum group of designers.

So what's the point of this "no point" thread?
There are approx. 20-30 of us guys who keep busy in this forum and working on various stuff, plus there's another 10-20 guys "passing by" at all times. The work produced by this Internet Clan, in my opinion, is very creative and good enough that it could be "circulated" for a minimum price by the company. All this could/should be done with an auto-installation as per standard upgrades.
Why should they do that?
BECAUSE THE MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THESE GAMES, DON'T FOLLOW THE INTERNET FORUMS, DON'T DL STUFF AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO INSTALL VARIOUS OTHER THINGS.

For the sales stimulation and to keep the game going for another year or so. Proof for my point, is the AoK forum that still goes on strong.

Just some thoughts I wanted to share...

regards

Summary: ES should promote Internet-community designed scenarios.

A fine idea, in my opinion.

I never really understood why they attained such god-like status. I mean, they made AOK, one of the greatest RTS games to date, and their scenario editors are unmatched, but other than that.... they're just another game design company. What's more, they're distributed by one of the largest, evil, heartless corporations in existance.

True.

Not to compare them or anything but one of my favourite games is made by Irrational Games. They're a small company and they really try hard to promate online communities and modding. Most of the staff in Irrational Games are active members on all the major forums and they mod and skin and mesh and help out the community like anyone else.

Maybe that is the kind of thing that AOM needs.

Lovley idea. I wouldent think Microsoft has enough money *lol* to pay full time workers to make games for free. However, I think they should make their own little system in which they make a voluntary manager, and workers, to make games and upload them into the update ma-jigga. Free, and functional. It works both ways :P

After getting AOE3, I realized how corporate ES has become. It's lost it's AoK/AoM touch long ago. It's no better than Mad Doc, imo.

Civilisation 4 was built from the bottom-up with modding and map design in mind. Firaxis designed the game so it had a wide range of abilities - everything could be tweaked or re-done so it supports all, from newbie-map makers to expert modders.

But now Age of Empires 3, supposedly is worse off in the modding department than ever. The scenario editor is amazing - but isn't supported. Where's the logic in that?

You think they'd have some pride about the fact their editor is so powrful. But no.

I greatly dislike the zone.

Half the top rooms are filled and locked by people who are "Sleeping" I mean how selfish is that? REALLY gets under your skin, ESO1 was a development.

Nah, hate mail doesnt get anywhere. You need to send one letter, then two, then three, then four... Just like in the first harry potter book, yeah - that'd piss them off.
