I played the game for the first time yesterday.
It was a rather strange experience. I was playing a 2 v 2 with everyone being new to the game.
The explanation cinematic was very well-made, and actually enjoyable. About two minutes into the game I came across the full army of one of my enemies. I can't say for him, but I was almost completely wiped out. It was whilst I was retreating that I gathered the uses of the various god powers and so managed to escape with the ancestors power.
With only my circe and three hoplites left, I was beginning to enjoy myself. A behemoth joined my team after I figured out how to recruit him.
My ally had occupied one of the bases (a town, I believe). I also soon learned that my enemy had occupied the central fortress, perhaps the most easily defended base. I implored my teammate to use a siege weapon against the fortress. After about ten minutes of figuring out how, he had started his attack.
For some reason, my enemy left his fortress to meet my ally's army head on. He came worse of the attack, and with help from my godpowers (ancestors again) we finished him off.
Soon after, we found the other enemy wandering about with little accompanying him. We chased him for a bit before he gave up.
As I said, it was rather surreal. The eye-candy is fantastic in parts, such as the fortress. Walking around the map reminds of the game far-cry; beautiful.
I feel the gameplay has potential. It's very basic, really, but very enjoyable.
I feel that I haven't played it enough to review it formally.
