Your are an idiot.
Trigger, active. Conditions: Whatever you wish Effect: Change units in area Make all of Colossus change into Crocodile of Set. Make the radius 999 (depends on big your map is).

I want to see it change not just *poof*. Like morph. Not "turn into".
Could you make it change to something like a Olympus SFX first, and then change it to Crocodile of Set? You could also make it change into a Titan, then change the titan into a croc, andthe new appeared Titan Gate can be changed into an Olympus SFX.
But Archaeopterix' way works to, just not online.

as stated above however first change it into a minotaur and add a fire effect event to a different trigger. both triggers need to be on run imeadiently. second trigger must have condition timer (ms) 100 then add the same effect and change minotaurs into crocodile of set.
EDIT: paperfriend my way works if the players only unit is the colosus EDIT2: allough the titan gate plan would work.... allough you do use it an awful lot. :P

I'd say paperfriend's method is the easiest and possibly the most eye-pleasing. A combination of visual effects also looks good. Change the unit to a titan atlantean, then change the titan gate dead to Osiris SFX (or whatever) then change the titan atlantean to a titan atlantean again, then change the titan gate dead to, say, ragnarok SFX, and finally change the remaining titan atlantean to a crocodile.
Try it! It can all be done in a single trigger, by the way, since effects are performed top-down.
