I like your idea alot. It's true the Romans adopted some of the Grecian deities. But they had their own style with them. Take my username. In the story of Persephone, it tells how Demeter mourned for her daughter. In the Roman version, it lists all of Cere's attendents and it takes awhile to get to Proserpina.
I think the Pryhian Victory settles the question of phalanx vs. legion.
You should seriously consider doing the Aenaid. It's right after the Trojan War, fits right in with contiunity. Just include Flora, Quirnus, and Janus, and it will be very Latin.
