FAQ:

  •  I get an error that says "Initialization Failed" when I start my game after installing a mod. What do I do?
    This error is almost always caused by an improperly installed mod. Sometimes it's something else. Undo what you did and try again. If you're still having trouble, outline what you did here and we can help.

  •  How can I easily view and edit the xpacklanguage.dll file?
    Download Resource Hacker, you can find it in one of the links above.

  •  Is there a way to stop the player color from showing up in a texture?
    Cover the white bits in the bottom half of the texture file with black. That should solve it.

  •  Is there anywhere I can find a list of all the possible VisualParticles for the anim files? ie. HeroGlow, Kronos Smoke, etc.
    Visual Particles are stored in the Models bar files. Extract, and sort by type. They are the .PRTs.
    These are code that run a series of .tga files (9-12 played in cycles) and can be varied by replacing the images through a hex edit of the .prt.
    Somewhere in the code are things like size/speed etc. but it's inconsistent. Just pick a .prt that is about the size you want and create the .tga files. They work like 12/4/0/5 bitmaps using grey-scale for transparency.

  •  How do you change the music? ie. add your own music to the game so you can play it while listening to your favorite music?

  •  How can I make my own campaigns?
    Use this.

  •  How can I change the names of the ai?
    See here.

  •  How do I add multiple mods so they don't overwrite eachother?
    This will teach you how to edit your protox and add mods on top of eachother.

  •  How can I make my own BAR files?
    Download this.

  •  Where is the main game folder for the Steam version of AoM?
    Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology.

    OK... So I've been using the basic modelling guide found here:

    ... and someone told me how to find the scaling function (nooooob, I know...)

    however when I convert back all the way to .brg the model remains exactly the same size!

    It's very frustrating... am I missing some important step?

    How can I make my own gods? Rather simply actually, how can I change the icon for a god on the list of gods? Is it as simple as editing an xml file? I actually don't wannt create another god, I just wanna change the icon. And, will it work online?

    @Expert I found some infos that might help you :
    4)Open the majorgods.xml file and you will see that each major god has a series of portraits defined. These are reducing in size versions of the same picture. Convert one of the original 256x256 portraits to bitmap format (you'll find them in the textures/ui folder) and use this as a basis of your new god format. Save the file as "ui god newname 256x256.bmp" and then shrink it to make 128x128, 64x64 and 32x32 versions. Convert these to .DDT and put them in your texture\ui folder. You will also need 128x128 and 64x64 unframed portraits (find the originals in the texture\icons folder - file name God Major XX Icon ZZ). Once you have done this edit the majorgods.xml file to reflect the new portrait names and convert it to .XMB format in you \data folder.
    I also know you must convert them with : Palleted 12-4-1

    I heard that it was possible to show a garrisoned unit as attachment of the unit it is garrisoned in (like for example garrisoning a unit in a horse and showing it as rider). How is this done?

    It's by having the garrison be external, which is a flag attribute in the proto. This is used for heroes and relics normally, but transforming can be used to change either of them.

    Thanks for the reply, but for some reason I can't seem to work attachpoint editor :/, I think its because I dont change the matrix part.

    Anyway I got it working, I just added an anchor point on the model.

    Hey do you think it is worth putting a wings attachment on the downloads section?

    Okay, just tried installing a newly made mod, but when I ran AOM, it said Initilization Failed. Anyone know why?

    Marauder that's a proton error I.e you wrote a line wrong In the proton. A useful trick I learnt to spot the error is to try to convert the xls to an xmb using aimed, it will say there is an error and will give u a line reference

    lol thanks. XP that's what proves that I'm a n00b at modding. SDing, I'm pretty good at, modding, no.

    EDIT: Okay, the unit I'm modding is Ajax, tryin to create a new unti based off him. And now there's just 2 Ajax(SPC)s. The second one has no sounds either.

    Search for an xml verifier of some sort, put your added code into there. If that works fine then put your entire proto in there (maybe you accidentally changed something). Get a line number, fix it, repeat until it works.

    Oh I fixed the Protox error, but for some reason the mod doesn't take affect. I didn't bother with the xpacklanguage editing since I don't really need that. Or do I?

    Well there would be two ajax (spc)s with the same name if you don't and yours would be the second one, you really should always edit it.

    im having trouble with getting the texture on my titan model
    ive taken the model files i want (Kronos), ive got my data and texture and i have changed the names to my new units name
    its the anim part that i keep messing up on no matter what ive tried it appears as the base model, it is invisible or it is a white model with no texture thanks
