Wondering about the changes coming up with Age of Mythology EX? Still on the fence about buying it unless the titan units' are absolutely glamorous with the new lighting system? Need to know if the flying purple hippos are still the best unit? Wonder no more! Starting today you can post all your Age of Mythology EX question right here in this post and on this Saturday and Sunday I will be answering your questions right here as best as I can.

I just checked and it breaks if you add more than 7 still. (That restriction was in the original game too)

One way you can add more and you have numerical input is to use a vector of values that the user types in.

E.g. Set lighting
Colour RGB: 255, 255, 255

In the trigger effect the components are extracted and applied. Bad part is if the user enters the input wrong all triggers will break.

You should check out /r/ageofmythology on reddit as well, I'm trying to tag as many developers / employees from MS Game Studios and SkyBox as possible for the subreddit. I'm sure the guys there would all have plenty of questions.

Some bad news - the console has been disabled (Well least for now) meaning new stuff particular to the extended version will be difficult to find.

Sadly the guy that posted the big list of "required fixes" over on the official ageofempires.com forums included disabling the console in his list. It seems the devs actually read that list.

What he posted was disabling console for multiplayer so no worries.

Exactly. The console being usable online nearly killed the game early on since it made all sorts of hacks easily doable. It should have been disabled from the beginning, although obviously it being available in the editor or whatever is fine.

Yea - I only wanted used of it in the editor. It is how I found out a lot of the stuff which I made into triggers.

Mind you though - hotkeys have the same power as the console!

Strangely enough ES did fix a few hotkey exploits in their patches but never did anything about the console. :/

There are mod packs already on the Workshop that reverts everything to default textures or default UI, if you don't like their changes in those departments.

There are a lot of bugs though and my worry is it won't be properly ready for the release date. They can improve things with patches of course but how many will play the game immediately, decide it's not good enough, and never come back? Hopefully they'll at least fix the big performance issues before release date or it'll be unplayable.
AoKHD was similar on launch and is still fairly active. I am concerned about the initial price turning people off though.

I've seem to have managed to bug out the online server - the custom game list is stuck with me apparently hosting a game when I am not and if I try to join it says I cannot join my own game. It's been on there for a day, probably will be for a while longer... (And it seems other people can see it too!)

Oh well hopefully I can send a message to the developers on Monday to remove it .

Some things that don't work:
  • Camera save causes the game to crash for some reason
  • Chequered terrain causes crash (Not placeable normally as it is water being forced on land)
  • Currently implementation of infinite population trigger will cause a crash - is fixable though I believe.

    Can somebody fire up a mod and see if it works? In particular, are there any issues with our old BRGs and DDTs? It seems like they changed the DDT format at least.

    They are hopefully going to release a converter for DDT. I managed to get hold of an early console version last night and make a first release of the improved editor onto AOM:EE workshop.

    any word on when the mod manager will be sorted out and the rotate mod will work? I couldnt get it to function myself, even with the beta mod manager.
