Welcome to AOM Unlimited - A Protox file which has been edited with the goal of larger, more epic battles being achieved.
You may be saying, "Oh great. Another Protox file that makes every unit cost 0 Pop limit."
I have modified the Protox file to make the following changes:
1: Houses, Manors, Palaces, Fortresses, Guard Towers, and Mirror Towers no longer have a build limit. Houses and Manors also no longer take resources.
2: Most units now only take up 1 population space. In an attempt to balance the Atlanteans, I have made Hero Atlanteans take up 2 population space. This number may increase in future releases pending feedback. Titans also take up only 1 population, but this may too change depending on criticism.
The reason I made this mod was because I was getting back into AOM, and I saw there STILL wasn't a mod that removed the population cap, and the only thing I Could find was some very lazy edited Protox files which made units cost 0 population. Not only did this completely and utterly unbalance the game, but it also made me more comepelled to try to change things myself.
The year is 2015. Computers aren't what they used to be. I'm pretty sure that my Computer and your Computer(unless it's a toaster) can handle more units on the screen.
I recommend you not to edit protox like that. The population limit was set to keep your computer safe.If anyone downloads the protox file and plays with high population , then his/her computer will hang and soon this may cause harm to that computer. The population limit was just set for the safety of computers. So limitations are sometime good for you.
*** If you have a very good processor and high (atleast 4 GB) RAM then there is no problem.

Well yeah, obviously there is a risk with having that many units at once, but as I said this is the year 2015. Plus, it's not unlimited units like the other Protox edits I've seen.
My computer for example, is slightly above average, and it runs things without a hitch at 300 population.

Try running an 8 player game with everyone at 300 population with 1 pop units, mirror towers everywhere and thousands of thousands of decoration items
Also, your mod definitely does 'unbalance the game'. The game is not balanced for every unit costing 1 population, so I don't see that as a valid criticism for other mods as your mod does that as well.

It's just a Google chrome issue. Use another browser or see if you can tweak some settings.
