After 2 defeats (can't handle low hunt maps)and one victory against Standard-setting Loki, with me playing as Isis, I decided to duke it out against him again.
Several times, like when my gold actually reaches 0 (I kid you not), I was ON THE VERGE of resigning, but, knowing the joy that comebacks have given me a few times in the past, I decided not to give up. He got the to the Mythic while I was still in the Classical Age! But things changed...
I'd say my victory was due to building two docks early in the game and winning naval supremacy to limit the enemy's fish supply and protect my own. I can't how many games I've lost due to not doing this.
And yeah, my micro could have been better, particular against the enemy myth units, but I think I was distracted by my impoverished economy. This also explains why I didn't wall off that third gold mine.
I just happened to place my barracks well, in addition. It wasn't even intentional, but it was invaluable for my defense efforts. It all went uphill when the enemy's initial two goldmines were depleted, as the rest of the gold was closer to my base as it was to his, allowing me to build an FB and crush him.
I decide on Thoth for the Mythic Age as I thought it fitting and just to call upon fiery missiles from the heavens to exact a decisive and satisfying justice.
