The Peloponnesian War was fought between the Athenian Empire and the Spartan Hegemony in the last half of the 4th century BC. The conflict lasted decades and eventually every city-state in the Greek world was involved in some way.
Players take part as one of 6 Greek city-states:
Player 1: Athens
Player 2: Sparta
Player 3: Thessaly/Thebes
Player 4: Eretria/Chalsis
Player 5: Elis
Player 6: Corinth
The map is as close to a reproduction of ancient Greece as possible and it thoroughly researched. All city-states are as near to their actual positions as good gameplay allows. Even the unclaimed settlements are in the position of other city-states or battles. See if you can spot the Thermopylae battlesite. Look for the island of Salamis - the site where the Athenian navy delt a stunning blow to the invading Persian fleet.
Players start out with less resources than a death match, but more than a supremacy game. All players start with a bonus population and a large number of villagers, so age advancement moves quick.
Suggestion - play this on ESO or Multiplayer as a DIPLO style map. Make and break alliances in-game. The intrigue! The back-stabbing!
The surrounding islands of the Aegean Sea hold riches beyond compare (gold mines, relics).
Control of settlements is key as the only available gold on the mainland is near unclaimed settlements.
Fishing can "net" you quite a bit of food. The waters of the Mediterannean and Aegean Seas are stocked full of fish, but beware of sea monsters and pirates!
