Battle For Middle Earth Version 2
This scenario attempts to re create the events from the middle to the end of the third age. After the Siege of Barad-Dur at the end of the second age, Sauron, although defeated, he was not destroyed. for over 1500 years, Gondor flourished and its empire grew. After around 1100 years, evil began to take shape in Dol Guldor as the Nazgul began to take shape. The early events of the third age concern the rise of the Kingdom of Angmar and the fall of Anor (Gondors Northern Kingdom). Angmar however, was defeated and the nazgul returned the relatively unguarded land of mordor and began rebuild its power.
The scenario starts at this point. In general, it represents the gradual demise of gondor through to the end of third age and the ring’s destruction. Gondor / Rohan win if they can survive for one hour. Mordor and their allies, the Easterlings and the Southrons have one hour to destroy the lighthouse in Minas Tirith.
Gondor starts off very strong, controlling all the land west of the Anduin, Ithilien up to the Dead Marshes and Northern Umbar. Its capital, Minas Tirith, Tower of the rising sun, is a large fortified city on the side of mount Mindolluin. Gondors former capital, osgiliath is situated on the four fords of the anduin. Minas Ithil is small fortress built on the eastern pass into Mordor. Gondor has around 20 minutes in the early part of the game to build up its defences / armies / technology / economy. Rohan, which does not exist until the later in the third age needs to build up as one would in a normal game
Mordor starts off with a small army and large amounts of villagers, and so can build up fast. Its allies build up as one would in any normal game.
To represent Saurons return, after 20 minutes, each evil player is granted 10000 of each resource. Mordor continues to receive 10000 of each resource every 10 minutes. The forces of evil then have around 40 minutes to try and destroy Gondor and win the game by destroying the Lighthouse on the top of Minas Tirith.
The tactical part of the game is Ithilien and Osgiliath. There are four town centres in this area. To maintain a large army, gondor must try to hold these settlements for as long as possible. If ithilien / the Fords of Osgiliath fall early in the game, then gondor stands little chance of survival. Rohan is essential in helping to plug gaps in gondors defences and buy time.
Notes and rules
These are notes that all players should know:
No Titans. I have tried to prevent their construction and research in the editor, but this does not seem to work. Please to not build them, it ruins the whole point of the game
Player positions and their race:
Player 1 – Gondor – Zeus
Player 2 – Rohan – thor
Player 3 – Mordor – Odin or Thor
Player 4 – Easterlings – Odin or thor
Player 5 – Southrons – Ra or isis (not set, the reason being the combined vision / meteor bug (get rid of vision plz ensemble, its gay)
The evil players start off protected. The northern entrance to mordor is wooded off and the eastern entrance is guarded by Minas Ithil (which becomes Minas Morgul). The Southrons are surrounded by forest.
All three evil players are granted 10000 resources after 20 minutes. Mordor is then granted a further 10000 of each at 40 and 50 minutes
Rohan is limited to what myth units they can build
The Southrons are the only race that can build docks / ships.
At some point in the game, mordor can summon a nidhogg (around the forty minute mark). This will appear in first god power slot
When the gate is destroyed, gondor can use the Ragnarok power (representing the final defence). Greek villagers are turned into heroes.
If the Fortress in South Gondor is destroyed, Gondor can raise two legions of the dead (representing the dead / Aragorn raising Erech blah blah)
Gondor should be played be quite an experienced player. It will be attacked from lots of directions and generally decimated.
My notes
Ok, I have tried my best to make an accurate and very playable scenario. I have stuck quite closely to Tolkiens original map of Southern Middle Earth in the front of the return of king. Ok, I would love Minas Tirith to have seven walls but the map aint big enough so sorry to the hardcore fans. I will start work on making proper heroes (Aragorn, The Witch king, Prince imrahil, the Mouth of Sauron etc…) and hopefully, there will be more skins and stuff for orcs / goblins etc… I will also start working on mp3s
It has been tested quite a few times at a local cyber café (starbytes in Southampton: www.starbytes.co.uk), which has a large following of age of myth fans. Three out of the four games were very close, with good or evil winning by a margin of around 5 minutes. I recommend not playing this online unless it is organised in a clan or people know what they are doing and have read the books. For new people, and people who haven not read the books, it will be slightly confusing :-), as I found out when trying to playtest it online.
My email / msn is jparmee@hotmail.com, so if you are a lord of the rings fan and fancy some really good organised games of this scenario, mail me or add me to your msn.
Kind regards
Jonno / General Jonno / Lord_Elrond / General Confusion and my 10 other names :-)
PS: Please don’t make changes to this scenario and post it up in your own name. It has taken quite a long time to put this balanced game together.
PPS: Return of the King is out in less than 2 weeks! YAY!!
