AoM: The Titans |
Modded AIX (expansion) to competitively play on larger maps. Rostro 01/17/04.
I found that when I made larger random maps, the AI would act sluggish, or 'break' altogether when playing on them. This is probably because the AI was designed for the maps that shipped with AoM and not new larger maps. Therefore, I modded the AI to make the game more challenging on larger maps.
An overview of what was changed in the AI:
Max Base Resource Distance is based on map size now. Larger the map, larger the resource distance,
The AI will attack you from a greater site distance, based on map size. (The larger the map size, the farther away the AI will attack you when sited.)
When walls are built, they have been changed to take into consideration the new Max Base Resource Distance. (Wall radius is larger)
Finding that on large maps AI infrequently wasn't farming or not gathering food at all,
so I gave a failsafe for the AI to farm. After so many minutes have passed: ~9 easy, 8 moderate, 7 hard and titan. This farming fix is probably not the best or the most elegant 'fix', however,it is a "one liner fix" and it does keep the AI players playing competitively.
This modded AI has been tested on
moderate and hard difficulties,
non-fishwater maps,
conquest type game,
mainly 2 human vs 2 computer games,
and all the AI flavors (builder, attacker, conquerer, protector etc.)
The AI works well under these circumstances, otherwise, have no idea.
TO PLAY:
(after installation) choose any of the default AI selections builder, attacker, conquerer, protector etc.
WATER MAP DISCLAIMER: water stuff has not been modded at all by me. I have no idea if these modifications make AI on water maps play better or worse.
Future:
Tweak AI on water map.
Tweak AI gathering food from goats, pigs, and other game consistently.
Tweak build walls before building titan.
**this AI mod rewrites original AI files. **
email me or write a comment with any questions etc.
**Original files are included in case you want to 'roll-back' to them.**
Have fun,
Rostro
