This mod will create a barbarian unit from germania (during the roman era) as seen at the beginning of the movie gladiator. he is equipped with a spear/sword and small hand-axe, and wears a round wooden shield on his arm and a triangular one on his back. His special attack is goreing his enemies.
I am new to modding, so please feel free to offer constructive suggestions, and if it is possible, I will try to update him to your expectations.
NOTE: If you want him to have a sword, place that anim in the anim folder. If you want him to have a spear, place that in the anim folder. DO NOT place both, as one will overwrite the other.

The mod looked really good, very nice. At first hand I thought, to bad only an anim file, but you did a lot with it, very good work.
Additional Comments:
There was one minor fault, it slashed with a spear?!?! Or you could change it the spear to a sword or you could pick another animation. |

I think it is an excellent mod pack, you have thought it through alot all the weapons correspond together and none of them are in the wrong place (if 2 weapons are ontop of each other) the only time that happens is if you put sward and spear in the anim file. very well done

I was able to get it to work, and the unit looks very pretty and cool, and has solid strength. So overall it was good. The Spearman version got bad reviews for chopping with spear, so I picked the swordsman version of the unit to use.
My criticisms are:
- The minotaur was the icon, even though the units did not look like that.
- There was no "Yes?" voiceover when the units were clicked on.
- You need AOM:TT even though the page just says AOM.
-The installation instructions were too unclear for me. I needed to get someone to send me a version of a protox file that they modded using this designer's unit text.
Specifically, it was not clear from the directions where you put each of the files. There is a file called "barbarian of germania_anim.txt", and a 2 KB file called "Barbarian of Germania.txt" that begins:unit id="x" name="Barbarian of Germania"
Step 1 was certainly to put the Anim file in the Anim.txt folder.
But the instructions about the "protox" file did not make sense. When I opened my data file, I saw no protox file there to use. The designer meant that I should paste the text from the "Barbarian of Germania.txt" file into my protox file in the data folder, but he didn't explain where in the file to do this.
A user named EEL_Hagrit#6238 sent me a protox file and told me to paste that txt file's text before the last line in his protox file, above the /protox line. Unfortunately, following that advice still did not make it work.
Another player named Venlesh fixed the problem by sending me a protox file that he modded himself using the Mod's text, and finally this worked. he did some extra steps like changing the unit id to X.
Additional Comments:
I made a scenario called "Battle in GERMANIA" using this unit mod and I submitted it to the Heaven Games database today. The file that I submitted includes the fixed protox file and the anim file for the swordsman, as well as directions on how to make it work on your system. That way a beginner you can get the Mod to work. |
