The Hunter's Tale - Prologue Dreams
A cinematic preview scenario of my upcoming Age of Mythology RPS Campaign. It is also my first Age of Mythology scenario, and my first use of Cinematic Movies in games.
This is a dream, that the protaganist of the Campaign has, the dream that starts out the entire adventure. But as of now little can be made of it, there's more depth in there than first noticed. It gives a vision of things to come in the campaign and the poem shown in it is the backstory to the campaign.
But if the few story elements are ignored, it still is a good cinematic preview, much like the trailer of a upcoming movie. It uses the Two Towers version of Clint Mansell's "Summer Overture" as background music and all camera transitions and tracks are coordinated with the music. |

Maybe one of the staff members that manage this site has deleted the rate.[Edited on 03/27/04 @ 08:33 AM]

My only guess, because it actually did show up for part of the day... I'm glad I checked in that small amount of time (though the post was left - unlike my other review - so I would be able to see it afterwards as well) |

Ok, two things have happened that I think this scenario will need an update, if not this file then the one that comes with the final campaign for sure.
I was editing in Low Graphic Detail, I don't know why or how but the fact remains, and for that I could not see much that I put down.
- Leaves, when I was editing I must have tried to put them down but not being able to see them I put down too much. I did want leaves in the first forest path track, but I think there may have been too many.
- When the cinematic cuts from the forest path to the desert with Hunter overlooking his army, there's a split second view of grass. This was my fault and lack of attention, corrected already.
- One of the helm ships in the fleet is not align perfectly with its wave. This was my error and corrected.
- In the last scene when the camera passes over the statue, there's orange pulsing things (I think it's supposed to be lava drops) but because I was editing in low graphics I didn't notice that... until now when I switch on high graphics.
The last part involves the X Editor. I downloaded to see its features and things, ended up removing because the introduction menu map (tundra with atlantean troops patrolling) had become distorted, the leaves on the ground had been turned to grass. So I uninstalled the Editor and worked in normal editor... or so I thought.
This weekend I was trying to play in a LAN but the game kept crashing due to "Out of Sync" then we decided to completly remove and replace AoM (and user data!) and behold. The introduction was filled with leaves again, the LAN game did not crash again but my scenario, the last part the road that Hunter climbs to the Three Enemies was there no more, it was all grass. So I had to replace the grass road with some (less cool) terrain. Anyway, could you guys confirm these things, like leaves and road? I want to know what other people have found. And if there's any other oddities, will you tell me? |

Wow, this is great... I thought it was dead and the comments were done but it's good to hear more input.
Very fair review, not asking you to change anything just adressing some of stuff you pointed out:
Creativity, it's true I did over stretch the trailer due to the music, but they are all meaningful shots of whats to come in the campaign so I could live with it... but yes, the music did order me around a little too much :)
Map Design, the problem with that was actually the X editor I had. I don't really fully understand, but when I was making it it was a cool looking road terrain, afterwards I had to reinstall AoM due to out-of-sync errors and discovered there was grass there. I already corrected it, as a post somewhere above states, but just will wait to release it with the campaign... but it's good to know others saw the grass as well, i asked but no one gave me feedback. thanks.
Storyline, the poem was written before the trailer, they were not created for each other. I'm just glad I managed to fit it in the trailer at all :D So I'll take the knockdown on score...
Again, thanks a lot for the review. |
