The Hobbit

Author File Description
File Details
Version: AoM
"In a hole in the ground, there lived a Hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a Hobbit-hole, and that means comfort." - The Hobbit, by John Ronald Reuel Tolkien

The scenario 'The Hobbit' chronicles nearly every major plot point in the novel, from the encounter with the Trolls to the Battle of Five Armies. I tried to stay as close to the original story as possible, incorporating a lot of dialogue straight from the book. Other features include:

- Different gameplay methods such as stealth and strategy
- RPG elements such as sub-quests
- A level-up system based on the number and type of enemies you kill
- A bonus mission should you reach high enough a level
- Cinematic cut-scenes render important points of the plot
- An 'html' readme file which contains many tips and tricks, as well as a comprehensive walkthrough for every sub-quest and power-up in the game
- Different modes of gameplay for beginners and experts

NOTE: The scenario can theoretically be played on all difficulty levels, with varying degrees of difficulty respectively. I would play on 'Easy' though, for that is what I based my play-testing on.

Sincerely, Istari

monkey555tuna Playability: 4
It was very playable. But the rain in the trolls part really slowed down my computer

Balance: 5
It isn't really that hard to kill the enemies because almost all of them are myth units.

Creativity: 5
The sub-quests were really nice. Very creative.

Map Design: 5
Everything was great. And every time The map went unexplored I was like "huh? a new map?"

Story/Instructions: 5
The signs helped a lot and the instructions of the sub-quests were very clear.

Additional Comments:
This was one really great scenario. It really seemed like the book. You should try making the other books.

Osiris_the_Ruler WOW, this is the best scenario( and campaign) i have ever played. Everything about it was outstanding. The Eye candy and cinematics were very very good. And the style of gameplay was very fun. Also i saw alot of not only very effective but original stuff, i liked the combination of buildings!. The Side Quests were pretty cool and everything was good. Possibly the only thing that was missing was actually the characters. Instead of Setna you could have changed it to Gandalf, Eitri= Bilbo, etc.. But of course that is just a minor thing and of course does not bring down the overall rate.

I rate this a 4.9 overall. It was just because of a few little things that i did not give it a 5.0! This is the best scenario/campaign in all these downloads!.

BTW: You should think about making the actual LotR with Frodo but the whole thing. Obviously this would have to be more than one level but it would be amazing seeing as how good The Hobbit turned out i would absolutely love it.
Peewee hmmm... I cant seem to get bilbo to bring a piece of treasure back from the dragons cave/tunnel.

Trigger problem?

Otherwise this map is the BEST i've ever played

To get the treasure, just click on it (a sparkling relic). I couldn't change the names of the characters because I unfortunately don't have 'The Titans' expansion. 'Easy' mode isn't any easier than 'Normal' in terms of the toughness of enemies. The only difference is that in 'Easy', you don't lose the scenario if some of the Dwarves die, as opposed to 'Normal' mode, where you do lose if some Dwarves die. Thanks for the comments!
monkey555tuna I can't bring the relic back to Thorin either...Am I getting the wrong relic?

[Edited on 07/10/04 @ 07:30 AM]

Peewee yeah, I get the relic, bring it up to thorin, but there is no cinematic. I think it's a trigger problem.

Which relic are you talking about - the one you steal from Smaug or the Arkenstone? If it's the one you steal from Smaug, you should be able to click on it and get a message (i.e. I better get out of here!). Then take it back to the top of the mountain, and Thorin should start talking, and so on... If it's the Arkenstone, you should be able to click on it and get a message (i.e. I think I'll keep it for myself for now). Then move all the Dwarves (and Bilbo) back up the tunnel, and Bard and the Elf King should have arrived...
Peewee Oh! I didn't click it! That must be why it didn't work. Again, great scenario!
