Trip to the Colosseum Version 1.01
A Cinematic for the AOM Titans Expansion
By Tom Barak
Running Time: 9:25
5/13/2004
-----Intro-------
This is my submission for the cinematic contest. There is one aspect which may need fixing and I am curious to see if you guys notice and complain about it. There is still time to fix it before the contest deadline, however. To see screen shots and a thread in the Design Forums click http://aom.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/forums/display.cgi?action=ct&f=13,19262,,all
-----Story-----
A Trip to the Colosseum
"Hear ye, hear ye", calls the town crier as the citizens of Umbria gather around the announcing podium. "In celebration of this cinematic contest, Emperor Arkantos has sponsored games. In the splendid city of Rome her citizens have built a wonder not matched throughout the ages. Come, together we shall visit this marvel and witness the grand spectacle".
And so a group of Umbrians pack into transports and make the journey to the city of Rome where they see combat feats of titan proportions!
Combat Program
I Hades' heroes versus evil mythical creatures
II King Nefarious' Royal Migdol Formation Riding Team
III Recreation of the second fall of Carthage (okay, with a twist)

Playability: 5
--------------
(nothing to say here)
Balance: 5
----------
you're a real director tbarak :). no silly camera movements and cuts. it was a pleasure to watch the trip and the actual show. no lag, beside the scenes inside the colloseum (but it is excusable, with all the units present)
Creativity: 5
-------------
two thumbs up for creativity, tbarak. the idea was very original and the execution was splendid. the map (scenery) really made my jaws drop (comments on that in the "map design" section)
Map Design: 5
-------------
well, this was the best part in your cinematic. you are delighting us with a feast of color. the overlapped buildings trick is used to the max. After the first camera shot the beautiful scenery invades the screen and floods the eyes. the cities are looking like real-life crowded metropolas from the past. the only thing that i did not like was the people working on different levels)
Story/Instructions: 5
---------------------
the story is simple, but catching. BUT, the final part of the show was boring and unnecessary. something else, like a chariot race, would be better.
Additional Comments:
--------------------
we BADLY need a cinematic section here at AoMH together with its separate rating system. i dont think that it is hard to do. i really dont know what is holding the aomh staff, cause im not the only one that asked this.

The whole thing went to fast.
Balance: 5
Feels like a movie
Creativity: 5
There were very nice creativity, were theres alot of action in the back ground, feels a little bit of a movie
Map Design: 4
Great map design, but one of the place looked bad and looks like it doesn't go there
Story/Instructions: 3
Now the story was the downfall, like why did they see the games and why in the end there were gaia killing everybody
Additional Comments:
Overall, its still a good cinematic, and a must see

wow freak, i said it before and i'm saying it again, you sure are a dumbass.
man, really how can you not understand the story...
just because you think a place looks bad, it doesnt mean it is bad designed. it means that the person who said that doesnt know what he/she is talking about
aw, it went too fast?:(.

Wow, thank you very much Baron Lopi for the nice review. Your critique was well thought out and as a designer your kind words are very encouraging. All the best.
While I appreciate your input Freak I am really not sure why you didn't look more favourably on the project. |

Well Auron, it really doesn't explains everything, and the horse thing was just a waste of time, but still fun to see and besides I'm hard to give a good score. I'm not that picky[Edited on 10/21/04 @ 05:34 PM]

Well Freak you may also consider that before your review this project had a top standing. After your review it has fallen into obscurity. I don't mind a hard review, but that said, the score you allotted is totally out of the range of the other scores this project has received to date. I was clear as could be that the download is a cinematic, and although you felt the "horse thing" was a waste of time, it has proven popular. As well it shows just how precise control can be with trigger effects. I have been reviewed by many well-known and accomplished designers who had favourable remarks, I am not sure why you insist on sullying this project with such a meager score. |

Freak you did'nt write a good review. Do some study then you can have a right to an opinion. What you have there now is nothing short of vandalism. |
