A Cinematic for the AOM Titans Expansion
By Tom Barak

This is my submission for the cinematic contest. There is one aspect which may need fixing and I am curious to see if you guys notice and complain about it. There is still time to fix it before the contest deadline, however. A Trip to the Colosseum
"Hear ye, hear ye", calls the town crier as the citizens of Umbria gather around the announcing podium. "In celebration of this cinematic contest, Emperor Arkantos has sponsored games. In the splendid city of Rome her citizens have built a wonder not matched throughout the ages. Come, together we shall visit this marvel and witness the grand spectacle".
And so a group of Umbrians pack into transports and make the journey to the city of Rome where they see combat feats of titan proportions!
I Hades' heroes versus evil mythical creatures
II King Nefarious' Royal Migdol Formation Riding Team
III Recreation of the second fall of Carthage (okay, with a twist)

The story is simply amaizing. A group of village trabeling from a humble village into a mighty colliseum, along with exellent dialogs.
This scenario is worthy of a 5 is creativity. The music perfectly fits the surroundings, and the way you manage to do some cool tricks with the units, moving them around, simply fantastiic. I really liked the way you made the villagers look as if they garrisoned into the ox-cart.
The camera tracks were smooth. There werent any problems with the triggers. Although at the end, the story seems to go "off-topic". At the end of the second scenario, suddenly titans start to appear, flying units, priest, ETC, which kinda didnt really fit for a colliseum fighting. IMO, it would have been better the fight which didnt involve titans and flying units. It caused a lot of lag the last fight too. anyway, the other starting fights in the colliseum were really stylish. the horses running around the archers, simply a piece of hard triggering work:), along with the horse show, really well made.
about the intro, the first yellow text fade out too quickly. this is just my opinion, but you could have used "play dialog". map design: enjoyable scenarios to see. amaizing colliseum, bridge, well, use of overlapping buildings, ETC.
well, my comments toward this campaign cinematic are positive. the scenarios contained minor(barely) any problems. All i have to say is, download it, watch it, and enjoy it:P

Seems like I terribly underestimated you, tbarak. It is just great, and it deserves a short 5.0 review, no TWENTY of them! EXCELLENT! Everything: Map design, buildings, story, camera angles, everything. My personal favourite are the egyptian riders: Splendid; a graceful horseback riding show that is about 40 secs long, I'd say, and I've NEVER seen that before, and moreover it just stunned me while I was watching it...
I only noticed four little weak spots:
1. At the first zoom into the colloseum, one sees a black line beneath the sky.
2. The name "Crier" is not too good, I think...
3. As Auron said, the final fight is a bit exaggerated, though very funny to watch IMO.
4. Use the ending "*.cpx" for scx campaign files.
This is simply a 5.0 IMO. And I haven't seen other pieces of scn work that deserve this mark yet. Your eyecandy can compete with Oscar's, BTW ;).

Wow! I read some of the review and thought, I have to watch this. Well their ratings were apropriate. This cinemetic is amazing! Great eyecandy! I loved the colosseum. You have very good chances of winning the contest with this. I really enjoyed watching the chariot show. :D
Everything has great timing and triggering. It is superb. The music is pretty good too. I loved the first combined building at the beginning. Good idea with the outside of the colosseum. i didnt really like that much that you used the titans in that final battle but thats just me. When the villies and old man are entering the city walls where the colosseum is you heard this really annoying tinkle sound from the vault. I dont know but that sound just annoyed me :p To bad the music didnt last for the final battle because watching guys fight without music is not that great. I liked the final part of the music the best though. that was good. I did like the dragon shot taking out the phoenix. The villies in the ox carts is such a fun idea. it would be nice if the villies in the crowds had some animations to not make them look so, bored. This cinemetic is great all around, and thankyou for making it for us to enjoy.
Additional Comments: Great, Great, Great.
Must see for anyone with The Titans. Two thumbs up :D
Keep up the good work, and good luck with the contest.

First of all, I must say, very impressive. I too underestimated you, tbarak.
No marks taken off here. The cinematic ran fairly smoothly from start to finish, without any of the common mistakes, like no Camera Start or immediate Fade to Color. I was a little tempted to dock a point here, however, for the slightly laggy wide shots of the crowd in the Coliseum (you spelt that incorrectly, by the way). But I didn't.
Good balance here, in terms of story distribution, I think. Good mix between action and adventure. A nice mix of music as well.
I did dock marks in this area, however, as the second half of the story was, albeit somewhat loosely, based on the movie Gladiator, even with word-for-word dialog at one point. The story was simply adapted to work with Age of Mythology, really. The plot as a whole was very creative, though. I was thoroughly impressed by the fantastic cavalry show you created... a masterful bit of trigger-work and choreography, that.
Map Design: 5
Excellent map design, full of eye-candy and life. The Coliseum interior was especially impressive. Very well done, all of it. Although I'll mention again that I was tempted to dock a mark here as well for the various low angle shots in which things like trees and particle effects were shown to be flat-ish and unappealing, if you follow me.
As I mentioned above, a fairly good, creative story. Again, I was tempted to dock marks here as well, especially for your word-for-word use of the dialog from Gladiator. But I didn't. And I must say, the emperor Arkantos had some pretty fancy special effects at the end there, for being back in the day and all... but I digress. Of course, the instructions were very straightforward as well.
All in all, a very impressive and visually appealing cinematic. The shots were all well done, with a healthy dose of dramatic, sweeping shots in the mix. Like I mentioned above, fantastic job on the Coliseum interior and the cavalry display, excellent work. And never once did I see the "edge" of the sky... I'm glad you were considerate in your shots. I did have some qualms, as I mentioned, but then again, nobody's perfect. Other than, there's little more to say except... good job. Congrats.

Certainly not one of the mist 'playable' scenarios (for obvious reasons) but it is one that keeps you entertained for all 10 minutes that it is running. The scenario keeps the viewer hooked and unconciously pulls them into the scenario itsself, and lets them feel for the characters and feel the tension that makes the scenario have a very convincing atnosphere.
Well, there isn't really much to say about balance in a cinematic scenario, so i will give it a 5 rate so to be safe.
This is a highly ingenious cinematic, it not only is full of brilliant, well thought out ideas but it also runs well, i found no bugs and the map itself is beautiful. Its simply gobsmacking.
I liekd especially your use of sounds in the dialogue. Its one of the first cinematics i have seen that encorporates sounds into itself.
Map Design: 5
Map designs is a 5, no doubt about it. The map is realistic, and at the smae time surriel....i thouhght it was amazing, and perfectly suited the cinematic.
The story was very well planned, it was humerous and at the same time gripping and exciting. The way in which the camera tracks weave their way around the map and seem to show exactly the right views for the story i thought was great, and complimented it well.
If you entered this for a competition, i think you will be sure to in.
Why put it in the campaign download section? ;)
This is truly an amazing cinematic here Tbarak.
I was glued to the screen when i first watch it.For some reason,i loved the build up and journey to the Colosseum,i thought that was very nice indeed.
The map design is at a high standard, nice eye candy and the towns were well put together(especially the first one).
The half time show owns dude.I watch in amazement, that must of taken time and hard work to put together.
All in all a must download, this is without doubt one of the best cins ever created.
Its about 10 mins long and i guarantee you,you wont stray away in boardorm.Added with a Peace of music by the great Hanz Zimmer makes this perfect.
(Thanks for that amusing poem you wrote mate.It was just the thing i needed to get motivated to write this review.)
(nothing to say here)
you're a real director tbarak :). no silly camera movements and cuts. it was a pleasure to watch the trip and the actual show. no lag, beside the scenes inside the colloseum (but it is excusable, with all the units present)
two thumbs up for creativity, tbarak. the idea was very original and the execution was splendid. the map (scenery) really made my jaws drop (comments on that in the "map design" section)
Map Design: 5
well, this was the best part in your cinematic. you are delighting us with a feast of color. the overlapped buildings trick is used to the max. After the first camera shot the beautiful scenery invades the screen and floods the eyes. the cities are looking like real-life crowded metropolas from the past. the only thing that i did not like was the people working on different levels)
the story is simple, but catching. BUT, the final part of the show was boring and unnecessary. something else, like a chariot race, would be better.
we BADLY need a cinematic section here at AoMH together with its separate rating system. i dont think that it is hard to do. i really dont know what is holding the aomh staff, cause im not the only one that asked this.

Awesome! The story was stunning, simply stunning. I enjoyed watching this. It's easy to understand and easy to watch.
It's a cinematic, so it's kinda hard to get a low score... the story was well thought out so I uess taht counts.
Very creative. You put a lot of effort into the cinematics.
Map Design: 5
Excellent! The colosseum was simply amazing, and the use of scaling was a very good idea. I have no complaints about any areas.
Very well thought out. My only complaint is that the last battle was a little long and repetitive. It's not taht big of a deal, but just something to think about.
I think that this is a very well done movie. I hope to see more of your work soon.
