AoM |
Something wasn’t right. They felt it for quite a while. Sure, the world looked absolutely normal. Birds were singing. Trees were standing there being green and stuff. Eye candy was lying on the ground, ridiculously plentiful and totally covering the grass and making eyes bleed and computers explode, like any respectable AoM eye candy does. Yet there was this strange feeling on emptiness... Then, one day, sitting in a tavern, our heroes Arkantos and Ajax finally realised.
Some bastard stole the point of scenario of which they were main characters!
And so began the epic story of bravery, heroism, and explicit idiocy. Will they find the point of scenario? Will they slash their way through dozens of random encounters? What does the strange old man want? And will our heroes survive the worst ambush in military history?
Having nothing better to do during the summer, I decided to mess with the AoM editor for a while. And so it all begun. The result of this work, "No Point", the only satirical scenario I know of, is now avaliable for download.
"No Point" features:
Over 14 minutes of cinematics;
Around 295 triggers;
An actual challenge. Not like, go down the road and kill random MU;
Multiple custom sounds;
Use of animations, icons, music, sounds, and other nifty things that make it look... er, nifty;
Many amazing and original quests [braaaaaaaag];
"No Point" does not feature:
Logical plotline
“The plot is brilliant. (...) this scenario is GOOD. As in GOOD GOOD.” – Happy Playtester.
Have fun.
UPDATE November 7: Fixed the transportation bug, added some minor corrections. Overall nothing you would notice :P |

Hey Silver Husky, make sure you turn off Cinematic before sending the player to the main menu. Otherwise, the next game they play will have black bars on the screen - making it hard to play. Very annoying. |

Nidhogg, that link was more immature than Nefarious has been. I'd remove it if I were you. =p

That now makes 2 people that hate you, dr nefarius. |

The trees and path make it extremely easy to understand where to go - along with roadblocks so you don't get "lost". It doesn't lag at all.
However, the transport scene doesn't always work - so that needs fixing. The ability to skip the intro cinematic would also be nice. You can also run past many of the random encounters (such as the first three horses).
Overall, it's probably around a 3 rating (which is pretty good :))
Balance: 5
It's not too hard, not too easy. It starts out with merely killing three horses and then going to harder challenges. The fights are also quite spread out so you have time to relax a bit before going into another battle.
Creativity: 4
Awesome idea for a pointless scenario. The beginning "No Point" title with the boost objects are also neat. Great jokes in the Capital and Bathroom, along with many other sidequests. Ajax getting kicked was one of the one of the funniest. :D
Map Design: 4
Not too much eye-candy but that doesn't really matter. Could have had more elevation and roads were sometimes too square and perfect. But overall it looked great!
Story/Instructions: 5
Great "logical" plot! Funny! Easy to understand!
Additional Comments:
Maybe you should post a guide to this to make sure we check out every "secret" and funny stuff in the scenario lol. Good luck with the updated one.[Edited on 10/27/04 @ 07:57 PM]

It was really fun. The jokes in it are worth the download. Some bugs here and there keep it from getting perfect, but nothing major.
-The teleporting, though, after I found out the reason, it became more of an added objective: Don't let the heroes die at the beginning.
-I don't know if this is a bug, but I didn't regain LOS after the toilet. Oh well. Made it fun.
-Also, the toilet didn't reveal itself because I somehow walked around the place that 'turned on the lights'
Balance: 5
At first it was easy. But then it got progressly harder to the point where you simply have to run and manuever your way to the end. To me, that's how scenarios should be. Sort of gives to player a chance to 'learn' as you go.
Creativity: 5
Do I need to explain myself here. This thing is the most creative scenario I have ever seen. It is hilarious. The ideas are all great. I could go on and on. The toilet, the 1s, the flying squid, the epilogue, the laboratory.
Map Design: 5
The eye candy was nice. Especially the toilet. That part was simply perfect.
Story/Instructions: 5
GREAT story. One of the best I've ever seen. The instructions were hilarious as well.
Additional Comments:
Anyone who loves a laugh MUST download this scenario. Period. (Or rather, exclamation mark) |

Funny. Quite funny. (Fav part BTW was the part where the enemy guy was introduced) I simply loved it. There were two bugs I should point out: The river bug, which to get around cheat to get shifting sands. There's also the bug where after Ajax exits the bathroom, the heroes line of sight is still very low. FUNNY! (did I already say that?)
Balance: 5
BEST BALANCE! There were spots when my heroes were on the brink of doom and I just barely squezed through. A true sign of perfect balance.
Creativity: 5
This idea is creative and never been used before. The ending was a little anticlimatic, but I aint complaining!
Map Design: 4
Awesome map. The inn scenes made really good use of boxes. But it needed just one more special something to get a five here. Really good, though.
Story/Instructions: 5
Story is wonderful, and instructions *almost* always clear. Liked how objectives were introduced like "You've got mail" and such. Everyone should do that from now on.
Additional Comments:
Best scenario I've ever played. Better than all the scens I've ever played COMBINED! I simply cannot wait till your next one! Keep up the great work!

So sorry, but this is not a review and will get removed, tarmo_flake.
Concerning the scenario: I liked the humour very much and actually the whole scn, too! Just make your intro skippable, don't show the border of the map in cinematics and use "Render Fog/Black Map" "OFF/OFF" during a cine and everything is fine. Well, the terrain is too plain, it needs some mixture. Apart from that, very nice :D!
EDIT: The point where you have to find the evil assassin is boring. Give the player a more exact hint where he is! BTW, give the player a decent playername.[Edited on 10/31/04 @ 12:18 PM]
