<~HISTORY BEHIND THE MOD~>
******************************************

Well this mod started when Mythos_Ruler contacted me about making a mod for a scen of his called Thermopylae ~ The Gates of Fire. He wanted me to make the hoplites look a bit more historically correct which I was totally for and change Theseus into King Leonidas. Later the greek villager got added to the "to be historically accuratized" mod list. After viewing the excellent references Mythos sent me I went straight to work. Soon I came across the great greek style shield avatars used in WildFireGame's 0ad forums and I decided they would be perfect for the mod. So Mythos contacted (because he is working on the 0ad project as well) the good people at WFG and got permission to use the avatars.

After several failed textures and ideas I finally perfected it and had it tested by several people.

<~ SPECIAL NOTES ~>
*************************************
Thank you for downloading The Historical Hellenic Hoplite Mod. I would like to thank Mythos_Ruler for giving me the idea for this and providing me with such great historical referances and great advise on this mod. I would also like to thank GloryofSparta for her
valuable input and support on this mod and finally I would like to thank the good people at WildFireGames for allowing me to use some of their 0ad avatars for the shield textures (In particular, I would like to thank the creator Ryan Karsten AKA IrishStag).

I appolagise for a two inaccuracies. The first one was a sword on the hoplies side, unfortunantly the sword looked stupid and warped on the model so it was decided to be removed. The second inaccuracy is the cinematic spears, I would have corected it if I had the US$30 000 program however. I sincerely appolagise for this inacuracies.

This rating is actually based on the screenshot(s) Centurion showed me. They're very nice and the texturing on this model is, may I say, excellent:). I was only kidding when I said I didn't see a difference anyways:p.

Well..what can you expect from an O A.D. texturer anyways?

I havent downloaded, but i've seen some screenshots, and the textures are top notch! It clearly shows unique textures, even if you used the shields textures for OaD. It is still very cool. The cool thing is that you managed to put some accurate history upon this work.

Additional Comments: very nice, and a 5 should be rewarded to such mod, even if doesnt have a new 3d model.:)

I'm rating the work, not the idea.
The unit "acts and feels" correctly in game if you know what I mean, and I say this after testing it.

Additional Comments:
a) the Spartans relied on their Hoplite phalanx and as the rest of Greeks, they thought that bows and such weapons were "unmanly". It's a common attitude among most warrior societies, and we also meet it during the Dark Ages -the knights etc. It seems that, the people of those periods of time thought that the "real man" -warrior, defeats his opponent face to face and up close within kissing distance.

b) without wanting to torture the subject further, only 1 point: the Macedonians were one of the main 13 Greek "tribes" and participated in the Olympics -were only Greeks were allowed.

c) being Greek and having a blood line from down there in the Peloponese (my grandmother), let me tell you it's not Lacademonian, the correct spelling is: LACAEDEMONIAN as a person coming from Lacaedemon or Lacaedemonia if you like. It's the area in the south of Peloponese (maple leaf shaped island type in middle-southern Greece), in the middle "leg", more commonly known to foreigners as Sparta (or Sparte in Greek)-because of the omonymous city that ruled the area in the old days.

pls Tassev, or whatever your name is, pls stop it. It's not funny and it adds nothing to the game, and I doubt if it provides you with amusement, cause certainly it doesn't amuse the rest.
and in case you're Greek or you understand Greek:
Se parakalo, stamata !!!
