This is just a short game with a tip to newer people. You don't need to defend your fishing. Building boats in archaic and letting them get killed in classical is perfectly viable, since often the extra pop slots and resources spent by your enemy on arrow ships means you can easily overwhelm by simply attacking him on land. This applies to mediterranean too.
Fishing in the first age gives you much more food if you focus the necessary villies on wood. Use this extra econ power to attack as soon as possible if an enemy wants to build warships.
Solid validation that control of the ground is critical AT ALL TIMES, particularly in land/sea scenarios, and when military control of the sea is not required to close with and engage your enemy. Newbs, know the map, or scout your enemy before developing closing strategies. Otherwise, you will always end up wasting critical resources.
