THE RING OF THE NIBELUNGEN ACT1: THE RHINEGOLD
In a time lost to history, when the gods still walked among the mortals a powerthirsty Nibelungen steals the magical Rhinegold. This act will change the worlds of the Gods, Titans, Spirits and mortals forever.
This Campaign will take you from the underground world of Nibelheim along the various races which live along the river Rhine up into the realm of the Gods themselves and... back.
You take controle of Alberich, his generals and his legions as they proceed to meet their destiny...
The Rhinegold is the first act in The Ring of the Nibelungen saga and is roughly based on the Opera by Richard Wagner.

A huge campaign like that, and such a short review? My comment was longer than that. |

I really hope I've come up with a good solution for the official review team. Only wish I could get that damn PhP Coder... |

best game i ever download. It kinda hard, especially with the sneaking into the castle part. Im not sure whether the door keys trigger work. but overall, very cool. |

@ All
Thanx for all the positiv comments guys and girls...it is good to know that the time I spend in order to create this was not wasted...and I am glad that some of you had fun.
I have not posted here much because of the reasons I mentioned in the main aomH forums....so lets hope this post on the download page will not cause any more weird stuff.
@whyamhere
Yes the castle ( scenario The Wizard) is the most complex game not only because of the riddles but also because of the fact that the player gets NO objectives and has to find everything out him/herself. However....I have written a walkthrough on it in my personal forums. See my website for the url)...about the doors LOL...all the triggers work perfectly :) but keep in mind that there are different kinds of doors and indeed for some you need to solve a riddle( regular door, magic door, detector door see also the instruction cinematic in the campaign and the name of the various doors). I know you've mentioned you're tired of all the comments, Vandhaal, but I just got around to downloading this a few days ago, so you live with reading at least one more, I guess. :p
Well, I'll get right to it: This campaign was fantastic. I can safely say this surpasses any other work (at least for AoM) I've seen, both as a playable campaign, and as a work of art.
I don't know if you were still planning on taking this down from the blacksmith, and it's your choice what to do with your work, but just the same it'd be a real shame if you took it down.
Thanks for the inspiration,

Yes, I didn't play that often, and I had a long break before the last scn ;).
Ok, time for a review then ;):
Playability: Clearly a 5.
Nothing to be added, it was simply brilliant. Tons of different quests, scenario types, a new culture (not really, but Vandhaal elegantly lets come up the impression), long play times, use of every single aspect of the game. Outstanding. And everything almost bug-free, although the campaign consists of so many scenarios. The atmosphere is brilliant, too. The music fits in (although it gets repetitive), the cinematics are very well done. It's a pity you didn't follow my cinematic tips, because then they'd be perfect ;). Fog etc. simply takes away from the atmosphere. Oh, and as I already said once, the text in the cinematics is displayed too long.
Balance: 4
Well, the scenarios can be extremely challenging, but as the B&D ones work without AI, there's always a point when you become the absolute superpower on the map. If you resist long enough you'll have so many Heros of Ragnarök that the opponent has no chance any longer.
(Also used this category as the reviewer's tilt.)
Creativity: 5
No doubt about that. A brilliant story, a setting which has never been there before, a new culture, various game types, opponents and enemies that I never have seen before in that way etc. etc. Play this and you'll understand why.
Map Design: Clearly a 5.
Why? Look at the buildings, the camps, the forests, the whole environment, everything. Again, nothing to add. Only flaw are those giant castles sometimes, when you're supposed to conquer them... Your forces can be extremely strong but it'll still take you many many units because the entrances are so narrow. For example in the last scenario or the one with the giant catapult.
Story/Instructions: 5
Great story. Great instructions. Including a very good campaign file with custom overlays, spotlights, good hints/objectives etc. Everything as it's supposed to be.
All in all, this is the best campaign for AoMtT available at AoMH :). Without a doubt. Very well done Vandhaal, it must have been a huge heap of work.[Edited on 07/03/05 @ 12:19 PM]

He Aomplayer Thanx for the serious, good and respectfull review !
It gives me great pleasure to read in your review that the concept of creating a playable movie has worked for you and that I and my campaign where able to draw you into the story and into the world along the river Rhine
Yes I know I should have read and used your guide...but the problem was that I almost had finished everything at the time you posted your guide....There where a lot of points while creating this project where I had to battle against the "hump". Well in the case that I start a new playable project i will try to dive deeper into ai and learn how it is done. Because like felix already said it makes the enemy more flexible and it also can save a lot of " trigger" head aches
Indeed this project was a huge heap of work so thanx again for the respectfull and serious review and comments. I am sure the upcomming downloaders will have a benefit from them
Best regards,
The Vandhaal
p.s one of my other download locations of this campaign is also catching on real good...the campaign got downloaded there more then 1200 times within 11 days ....so this is a good sign for all us AoM scenario designers ! there are still a lot of players who like to download and play our custom scenarios :)[Edited on 07/03/05 @ 01:33 PM]
