THE RING OF THE NIBELUNGEN ACT1: THE RHINEGOLD
In a time lost to history, when the gods still walked among the mortals a powerthirsty Nibelungen steals the magical Rhinegold. This act will change the worlds of the Gods, Titans, Spirits and mortals forever.
This Campaign will take you from the underground world of Nibelheim along the various races which live along the river Rhine up into the realm of the Gods themselves and... back.
You take controle of Alberich, his generals and his legions as they proceed to meet their destiny...
The Rhinegold is the first act in The Ring of the Nibelungen saga and is roughly based on the Opera by Richard Wagner.

Guardian Of Isis, you wrote in your own review you liked to give it a 4.5. And in each category you pulled of points because of tiny details, which normally wouldn't even be mentioned.
Fun is one thing, the rating you give it for that fun is another. And in your case it's simply too low, sorry. You should play more campaigns from this site and have a look at their reviews. Although your review as such (the comments and suggestions) is good.
Vandhaal, this is AT LEAST a 4.5+ campaign. IMO even around 4.8.[Edited on 04/03/05 @ 12:25 PM]

Hey, an opinion is an opinion, okay?! I'm not going to argue with you, but it's just what I think of it. |

Playability: 5
Real thinking! Not just numbers against numbers. Otherwise I might as well have rolled some dice and be done with.
It felt like playing an old text adventure but with the graphical goodness of AoM... :)
Balance: 5
To me, the hard and fast battles were nice interludes for the thinking and adventuring. Keeping me right on playing till the end.
Creativity: 5
Well, I have not yet seen anyone tackle historical heroic literature in a RTS engine like this. I actually hope some gaming company will pick up the amalgam of large scale RTS and RPG in a way that lets people like Vandhaal give more expression to their artistic spirit.
Map Design: 5
Great use of the features of the map editor. I would never have thought things like these could be done. Shows what lateral thinking can do.
Story/Instructions: 5
Aside from the spelling errors, the story was quite faithfull to the original German story.
I have done the Nibelungenlied for my German exams and I must say, it really captures the spirit. Vandhaal has it right down to a tee.
Additional Comments:
Well, what I do hope is that Vandhaal, or at the very least Vandhaal's way of storytelling, gets picked up by the gaming companies.
Maybe there will be other retellings of great myths and legends.
I think of Beowulf, Kublai Kahn (the golden Kahn), the battles of Saladin and the like.
Would make history and literature more fun; If you do not like to read, or watch a movie, just play the game! :) |

I am not going to review it right now, but I must say the story's excellent, better than most if not all scenarios/campagin I have played. The eye-candy's excellent too, up to the level of Oscar (Building blending king) and Guardian (Sprite King), albeit in a different style.
There are sometimes some minor bugs. That is perhaps either I have messed something up, or because of the enormity of the campaign.
The balance is very good. It gives a great challenge, not a walk in the park at all. Say, the difficulty was around that of Lost legion. Although, with my horrible gaming skills, I lost several times.
The creativity is awesome, the topic was never even mentioned of before, much less than someone making it. Wagner's the Ring of the Nibelungen was a great opera. Or as he called it, Music Drama.
In scenarios, there is no perfect, but the fun this gives should earn it at least a 4.4, if not 4.6 or 4.8.

2x 4.6, 2x 5.0... Guardian of Isis' 3.8 must be like a slap in the face for Vandhaal, although he's too kind to admit it... |

I believe Gummy's 3.0 for LL was a slap in the face for Oscar too. |

Vandhaal just made a whole explanation about the fact he doesn't care about ratings. READ, AoMPlayer000!!!!
Besides, when you release a campaign, you have to be prepared for a lesser rating too. (Like the 3.4 on my campaign: Kronos' Revenge.) |

There, for everyone to stop annoying me, I gave RoTN a 4.4. Creativity and Map Design to 5 and Story/Instructions to 4 (3 was indeed not enough). And not a word from you, AoMPlayer000! >:([Edited on 08/07/05 @ 07:17 PM]
