The playability is good, played through the whole game and haven't encountered any game stopping bug. On the other hand, I personally feel that there isn't much strategic element in the campaign. You pretty much have to follow the set path and there is no alternative. Even in some build type of scenario you are not allowed to build an army of your liking. This is however probably intentional as free-style scenario might ruin the balance.

Balance: 5
Later levels can be a bit challenging, but not impossible to finish.

Creativity: 5
Creativity is obviously the strength of this campaign, it has a great story, amazing cinematics, and a whole lot of eyecandies that are just pleasant to look at. Great stuff.

Map Design: 4
Again, the map design is great, playing the scenarios always give you a sense of urgency so you constantly have to do something. However, I personally feel that more effort was put into constructing cinematics rather than the actual playable levels. Additionally, I'd like to see more "build (from scratch) and destroy" type of scenario as most of them are rpg, character-exploring, or defending the base types. Granted, those types of scenarios might fit the storyline more appropriately, but it really doesn't hurt to mix different types. Also as mentioned earlier I'd like to see alternative path and greater strategic play rather than just "going through the motion."

Story/Instructions: 5
Well written and easy to understand, a few spelling errors but no big deal.

Additional Comments:
Overall I would say it's a job very well done. The amount of effort being put into this campaign is obvious. The cinematic, eye-candies, and use of triggers all show the design skill of the author. The only two issues I can think of apart from those mentioned above are the (mis)use of sound clips and the inability to escape out of cinematic. For example, in one of the earlier cinematics the gong sound is used over and over during the entire cinematic. The "click-ching" (or similar sword-drawing) sound is also used by some of the later cinematics. When the cinematic is over 5 minutes long and there is constant gonging and click-chinging, it literally gave me a headache and I had to turn off the sound as there is no way to escape out. Again, this might just be my preference and it's really not a big deal if you don't mind those sound.

In short, download, play, and enjoy.

Real thinking! Not just numbers against numbers. Otherwise I might as well have rolled some dice and be done with.
It felt like playing an old text adventure but with the graphical goodness of AoM... :)

Balance: 5
To me, the hard and fast battles were nice interludes for the thinking and adventuring. Keeping me right on playing till the end.

Creativity: 5
Well, I have not yet seen anyone tackle historical heroic literature in a RTS engine like this. I actually hope some gaming company will pick up the amalgam of large scale RTS and RPG in a way that lets people like Vandhaal give more expression to their artistic spirit.

Map Design: 5
Great use of the features of the map editor. I would never have thought things like these could be done. Shows what lateral thinking can do.

Story/Instructions: 5
Aside from the spelling errors, the story was quite faithfull to the original German story.
I have done the Nibelungenlied for my German exams and I must say, it really captures the spirit. Vandhaal has it right down to a tee.

Additional Comments:
Well, what I do hope is that Vandhaal, or at the very least Vandhaal's way of storytelling, gets picked up by the gaming companies.
Maybe there will be other retellings of great myths and legends.
I think of Beowulf, Kublai Kahn (the golden Kahn), the battles of Saladin and the like.
Would make history and literature more fun; If you do not like to read, or watch a movie, just play the game! :)

A really playable game. It grabs you like the official campaigns, which is rare in these sort of campaigns. Plus each level isnt too long or too short and they dont ramble on off the point.

Balance: 5
The balance was perfect not to hard or easy, but still a good challenge for all the levels.

Creativity: 5
The Rhinegold is by any definition the most awe inspiring piece of work to of ever being presented by the Aom editor to date, and it wasn't just one type of style either loads of really cleverly made out plots were put into it too, all unique and well thought out.

Map Design: 5
The Rhinegold has officially streched a barrier in Aom designing and torn a hole in the world of fantasy and fiction bring to life the most of an entirely new level of style and amazment in the Aom editor

Story/Instructions: 5
Nothing to say, at no point in the entire campaign was it not clear what to do, or not to, or what has happening or not. Which is actually really good for such an amazingly fascinating and dazzling storyline.

Additional Comments:
This reveiw was made as my attempt to allow the Rhinegold the deserved mark of 5 and that any comments or reveiws that were biased or lies be made up for here. This is a really great piece of work and any little perfectionist problems people have with it, like me wanting it to get five should just be brushed aside because of all the work that would of went into it.

Playability: 4
The overall playability was one I was satisfied with. It went smoothly, close to perfect. Though you might have considered making your cinematics skippable. Because when you forget to save a scen, for example the first, and you fail, you have to watch that long cinematic again! But do not think I based myself only on that for my 4 rating. Some eye-candy caused trouble sometimes etc.

Balance: 4
The balance was good, balanced of course. Some minor thingies here and there, but good... Oh, in the first scen, that Ox Cart following you around all the time is very annoying. By this, I mean that it automatically comes back to you, even when you're fighting. Some parts were fairly easy, like the last scen, others a tad too hard, perhaps. But balance is definitely in it; it IS hard to make good balance in a 10-scen campaign.

Creativity: 5
The story was VERY creative, a good job. You created a whole different world, away from the normal AoM campaigns. And there were all these different races and stuff, and of course, the scens vary a LOT. You use all kinds of areas in the Nibelungen world. This should get a 6/5. ;)

Map Design: 5
WOW! This blew me away. The terrains, the creating, the things enlarged, the Sigmund House... Incredible! This is without a doubt the strongest part of the Campaign. Sometimes, the eye-candy caused some problems, (f.e. small passages and taproot trunks getting in the way of your view, but that's because I always turn the map to it's default form) but the way it all looks is fantastic.

Story/Instructions: 4
The story is very original; it depicts a world of its own. Though some of the lesser parts described below make me lose some interest in this world, I must admit its originality. The instructions were good and straightforward most of the time.

The lesser parts: Watch your spelling! I know I sound like a high school-teacher, but it can be very irritating! Also, the sounds for the Rhinegold can keep repeating OVER AND OVER again, during the whole campaign. This is probably the worst part. (Not that the campaign is bad, on the contrary!) The loops were like you just wanted to get rid of that "annoying" part by looping. I just had to put this somewhere, cause it bothered me so...

Additional Comments:
The campaign is a good piece of work overall, especially the scen design, though certain parts could be improved, like the looping music in practically every scen. Keep up the originality, Vandhaal! It's what makes your work great.

PS. I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE CONTENT OF MY SUPERFLUOUS MESSAGES WITH ANY TYPE OF "REMOVE PLEASE" Please remove them. Sorry for all those messages and for acting like a d***.

Playability: 5
The overall playability was very well done ! This campaign is a real challenging adventure and grabbed me from the first seconds I started playing it. This is a very rare fact. After the years where campaigns like for example The Delphic Oracle and Survival of the Phoenix where released we only got terrible N00b campaigns like Kronos' Revenge which where boring, poorly designed and not challenging. TRotN renewed the AOM excitement for me again. I had specially reinstalled AOM TT for this campaign and I was glad that I had done this.

Balance: 5
The balance was perfect not to hard nor too easy. Every scenario had its own unique difficulties. Like for example the vulnerable Oxcart, which follows you around in the first scenario, it showed the player that fighting was not always the best solution, and the shapeshifting godpower. The mix between mind breaking puzzles and hard fighting was also very well done.

Creativity: 5
The story is one of the most creative ones I have ever seen in an AOM campaign. The map designs are just amazing. TRotN has brought Aom designing to an entire new level. In my humble opinion it is even more exciting as the original ES campaigns. The cinematics and sounds where very beautiful and fascinating!

Map Design: 5
Incredible!!! All maps where beautiful designed. Not overloaded with just useless eyecandy but carefully designed to the smallest detail. Examples like Siegmunds House, Nibelheim, The Castle of the Wizard, the Spirits which where spread throughout the landscape, the river Rhine, the underwater environment, the burial mounts of the Gibichungen and the frozen lake in front of the Castle of the Gibichungen King. These all are just a small selection of examples from the awesome map design. I have never seen these things before in an AOM campaign. Many authors from other campaigns will copy TRotNs’ map design for sure.

Story/Instructions: 5
Again I just can say amazing! Not just another stupid and boring stop Kronos story but a fascinating and unique plot that kept me interested until the last minute. All objectives and instructions where very clear. The highlight menu stories where very well done and at no point in any of the scenarios I was lost. Very well done!

Additional Comments:
A magnificent and original piece of work. It is really a shame that people like Guardian Of Isis (I won't even bother to mention the other two dumb ratings) give this campaign a low rating accompanied by some comments which only shows his shortcomings. I have read your other removed rating so it doesn't help you to suddenly write nicer things. You just do this out of pure jalousie.
!! I have enjoyed this campaign and hope Vandhaal will create more.

Yes, I didn't play that often, and I had a long break before the last scn ;).

Ok, time for a review then ;):

Playability: Clearly a 5.

Nothing to be added, it was simply brilliant. Tons of different quests, scenario types, a new culture (not really, but Vandhaal elegantly lets come up the impression), long play times, use of every single aspect of the game. Outstanding. And everything almost bug-free, although the campaign consists of so many scenarios. The atmosphere is brilliant, too. The music fits in (although it gets repetitive), the cinematics are very well done. It's a pity you didn't follow my cinematic tips, because then they'd be perfect ;). Fog etc. simply takes away from the atmosphere. Oh, and as I already said once, the text in the cinematics is displayed too long.

Balance: 4

Well, the scenarios can be extremely challenging, but as the B&D ones work without AI, there's always a point when you become the absolute superpower on the map. If you resist long enough you'll have so many Heros of Ragnarök that the opponent has no chance any longer.
(Also used this category as the reviewer's tilt.)

Creativity: 5

No doubt about that. A brilliant story, a setting which has never been there before, a new culture, various game types, opponents and enemies that I never have seen before in that way etc. etc. Play this and you'll understand why.

Map Design: Clearly a 5.

Why? Look at the buildings, the camps, the forests, the whole environment, everything. Again, nothing to add. Only flaw are those giant castles sometimes, when you're supposed to conquer them... Your forces can be extremely strong but it'll still take you many many units because the entrances are so narrow. For example in the last scenario or the one with the giant catapult.

Story/Instructions: 5

Great story. Great instructions. Including a very good campaign file with custom overlays, spotlights, good hints/objectives etc. Everything as it's supposed to be.

All in all, this is the best campaign for AoMtT available at AoMH :). Without a doubt. Very well done Vandhaal, it must have been a huge heap of work.

Here is my review of your lovely campaign as I have promised before.

Playability: 5
Very challenging with phenomenal features. At first I had some difficulties to complete the first scenario but as I usually get on quite well with these sort of games I though come on Girl try harder, you can beat this ! So I changed my approach and from that point on I had no problems to solve all the challenges and objectives in the scenarios.I replayed some of the scenarios and tried to approach them in another way and as I did this it was clear that you did not base the different aspects and missions on presumptions. It seems that you had counted on all possible actions a player could perform. I just could not find any playability issues.

Balance: 5
I consider the balance in this campaign as excellent. Some objectives are relatively easy and some are hard. The amount of saving and restarting was fair. The story was so breathtaking that it kept me going on. So Each time I failed in some way, I knew that if I tried something a little different I would advance.

Creativity: 5
The campaign and its story are captivating and sensational. After I had completed it I took a look at all the images and descriptions you had made and realized how hard you must have worked on it. You succeeded in telling this myth through a game plot that is detailed and creatively enhanced with very original ideas. The level of your stunning creativity in design surpasses what a Review can indicate. The countless details and the movies provide an intense and impressive gameplay experience. Simply brilliant The_Vandhaal !

Map Design: 5
It is just Incredible how you managed to create this expansive world. All the maps and movies gave me a highly dramatic experience and all locations were made memorable and completely captured my imagination as I played through them. Besides the very creative and beautiful eyecandy the maps contained plenty of strategic advantage and , as I found out the hard way, disadvantage points. You managed to keep me suprised in every step I took on my way of exploring the lands around the Rhine.

Story/Instructions: 5
This is not only one of the most beautiful campaigns I've played it is also one of the most captivating and best stories I've encountered. The story and Alberichs actions are disturbing and even more chilling was the sensation when I thought some more about how cruel my little hero was. All instructions are well crafted and the objectives, hints and displayed messages are meaningful to both the story and the game play. You seduced and captured me completely with the dept of the story and the build up of your campaign.

Additional Comments:
I enjoyed every second of this campaign and like to thank you for this. I congratulate you once more with creating this truly masterpiece and hope you will continue in creating this kind of beautiful campaigns.

xxx Your LaLinda

Even though it was based upon an opera; you were still creative on how to realize it! Especially on whcih units to use.

Map Design: 5
There was great map design and eyecandy if i could I'd rate this a 10 I would have done it! Especially the scenario in which you take over Nibelheim.

Story/Instructions: 5
It deserved a six as to how to plotting was done. Very decent instructions might have been a little weary but good for most of the time.

Additional Comments:I'm just ashamed I coldn't rate this sooner.

The playability is excellent. This campaign was the perfect challenge for me. I have never been so motivated to continue playing a campaign until I started playing this one. Every second of it was awe inspring and impeccably well done.I have encountered more gameplay modes than ever put together before in a single campaign. For me it has also a great replay value. I am sure I haven't discovered everything so I will play it several times more.

Balance: 5
What can I say here… brilliant. Not too easy, not too hard .Challenging parts ballanced perfectly with some easier parts. All the levels kept me on the edge of my chair.Almost all the levels had little difficulty twists. Like for example in The Wizard level; I thought it would be easy because I could use the monkey shape to explore the entire map, but again you got me there ; )

Creativity: 5
It is a masterpiece of artwork and design. There are just too much things to see and experience to mention here. TRotN has an amazing story, is packed full of eyecandy, has stunning cinematics. I never have seen so much put together in one campaign. The music was awesome and I liked the unique way you made use of some soundeffects. Like for example the ongoing gong sound in the intro cinematic representing the eternal spinning of the rope of time. Really impressing ideas !

Map Design: 5
The maps just blew me away, there is a great blend of different types of terrian and everything is just so detailed !. Spread throughout all the maps surprises and eyecandy can be found .Siegmunds house, the well of the wolf, the castle of the wizard, there are just so many suprises and eyecandy throughout the maps and so many different things that you can explore.

Wonderfull job done here!

Story/Instructions: 5
Amazing story. The campaigns scripting is very well done and the storyline has different branches. All instructions and objectives are
clearly written down and I liked the special story background details in the highlights menu and the bitmap images in the campaign menu which backup the story.
The main characters where great and are good developed throughout the story. Alberich as a hero was very refreshing although at some times I had the urge of killing him myself ; )

Additional Comments:
Ofcourse nothing is perfect but this campaign deserves a 5 rating. The campaign plays in a league of its own and I am sure it will be
remebered for a long time.I will look forward to your upcomming

My review

Playability: 5
The scenarios, were great to play and were kind of revolutionary to me, due to things like the weapon centre. The cinematics were fun to watch and you will be in this story from the point you see Alberich for the first time till you finally see the credits. And it makes you very satisfied when you finally completed that last objective.

Balance: 4
The balance was very good, although fighting the same army over and over again begins to get boring after a while. You accectly knew were to place specific units. And you could protect your towns by simple spam some towers and hillforts, on the other side, the RPG's were perfect and with using the powers right, you could make it to the end.

Creativity: 5
This campaigne was, as I already said, really revolutionairy. You made a whole new race in the game that's called AoM and I've seen lots of things wich I never saw before like the door system and the weapon centre. Also the hints and tips that were availible in the game were like no other.

Map Design: 5
Really good, the maps were filled with amazing buildings and mystic woods, really impressive, my favorites are the Volsungen-fortress and the Walsungen one, not to forget Siegfrieds house and the Gibichungen forts, wich were very sinister. They described the different races very well and made you fell like the were actually real, and not just some weird aliens.

Story/Instructions: 5
This is by far the best campaign I have ever played in the entire history of AoM TT. It has a great story and you really want to now what the characters are doing. In most campaigns you just play them and don't have a "relation" with the characters. You achiefd this and made you really care about Alberich, although he is a real brute.
The instruction were also very clear, you always knew what to do.

Additional Comments:
Can't wait for the other 3 acts(if you ever make them), this campaign has really given me new ideas for making my own campaigne. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for the Corruptor ;)
this should also be a spotlight imo
