What? This is uploaded as a BAK file! Oh well, I'll just rename it to .scx...Well! I've got to admit, for a first scenario uploaded here it has potential, but sadly it has been bogged down by several major drawbacks:
Playability: 1
When I first played the scenario on the load scenario screen, it actually starts out as the Green monster player and not the Blue heroes, so i played it in the editor. And well, this scenario is basically too easy; I've simply bulldozed my way through using only my four heroes without even selecting my hoplites a single time. (with a few healing stops along the way with my Valkyrie) After I've acquired the coveted relic, there is actually an open gap in the trees that allows a quick shortcut to the temple and thus winning the game quicker than what is supposed to, and when I did garrison the relic, it jumps into the 'Continue your Journey?' screen rather than a 'You are Victorious!' message which reveals the entire map and allows you to see your post game statistics. On my second playthrough, ignoring the open gap shortcut, and instead taking the long grass route, I've encountered more green monsters which i easily finished off. The animals pose no threat to me since they're brown gaias and only attack villagers unless attacked first.
Balance: 1
Since almost all of the green monster enemies consist of myth units, and the fact that the red 'wild animals' are basically normal gaia (brown) animals instead of beasts of set, I've used my heroes (for the killing) and my Valkyrie (for the healing) only. When I checked the triggers, the scenario is supposed to be lost when one (yep, that's right, just ONE out of four) of my heroes die in battle, yet the scenario isn't lost when the temple is destroyed, even though it is an absolutely critical part in winning the game. If the temple does get destroyed (in this case, hitting the delete key), I've simply killed all the Green enemies and thus winning the map.
Creativity: 3
Instead of simply "kill and destroy" like most first-timers here, this scenario has dim-witted heroes leading an army to recover a relic and enshrine it in a safe place. That seems original, but sadly it's hampered by all the bugs I've mentioned above.
Map Design: 3
This scenario started out as a blank map, and was added trees and some different terrain at some point, as well as some embellishments. There is a nice river with some fish and a waterfall northeast of the map. There aren't any sort of spectacular eyecandy, but there was some attempt at terrain mixing.
Story/Instructions: 3
Four dimwitted heroes, leading a small band of hoplites, accompanied by a Valkyrie, to recover a relic, and enshrine it in a temple, will kicking the rear ends out of monsters along the way. Sounds familiar? For me, I don't think so, but i still don't know why they want to recover the relic in the first place, or even their backstories, even though this is supposed to be a just-for-laughs scenario, and even then, only a few lines really did make me giggle a bit.
Additional Comments:
I don't know if you're still active after all these years, but don't discouraged by my review. This scenario has potential, LOTS of potential, that in fact, it could make a great campaign! With a few learning, tweaking, and polishing, you WILL wow the crowds! Keep up the good work! ;D
P. S. Please upload new scenarios as .scn or .scx next time, okay? ;)[Edited on 09/29/11 @ 09:55 AM]
