Umm... yeah... I tried to port the gmax scripts to Blender... some parts still fussy but they should mostly work.
Read the readme.pdf file... note that these scripts work better for scratch-built models rather than editing models as Blender's 3ds import has problems... again see readme for more info.
2007-01-22: Aren't typos wonderful! Single-frame models should import now.
2007-01-22: You don't have to manually set the endframe anymore. And the models don't stay the weird black color.
