IF YOU DOWNLOAD THIS MODPACK PLEASE DO NOT DOWN LOAD ANY EARLIER MODS POSTED BY ME - STEPHEN CAINES - AS THEY MAY OVERWRITE PARTS OF THIS RELEASE. UPGRADE MODS POSTED AFTER THIS RELEASE WILL NOT AFFECT THE GAME, BUT EARLIER MODS MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS THAT I MAY BE UNABLE TO RESOLVE.
AGE OF MIDDLE EARTH
===================
Release 0.6 (Beta)
ABOUT AOME
===========
Age of Middle Earth is a complete game makeover of Ensemble Studio's Age of Mythology: The Titans, and requires a copy of AOM:TT to be installed in order to run.
The makeover uses a modified version of the AOMX.exe called AOMEmod.exe. This in turn uses a separate set of .bar files which use newly named data files, ie. protom.xmb, techtreem.xmb and so forth. Similarly it uses renamed language files, ai files and user config files. In short, as issued Age of Middle Earth will have no effect on the standard game or any mods you may have added.
The exception to this is that in order to make the game AI work I had to reuse a number of standard units - Settlement Level 1, Villager Greek/Egyptian/Norse/Atlantean and a number of economic buildings. Inside the AoMEanim.bar file there are therefore _anim files with names used in the standard game. These files will have no affect on the standard game unless they are extracted into the Age of Mythology/anim folder (eg. using AoMED) in which case they would be loaded over the games standard versions.
If they are extracted, they will use AOME models for the units rather than the ES standard issue. This won't adversely affect the standard game, just look a bit funny. If this problem arises you can just delete the freestanding _anim files and all will be well.
The game will not affect LFS's Legends of the Third Age mod (which uses AOMXmod.exe), though it does share a number of units as the plan is to merge the two for the next installment. Unfortunately AOME does not run the existing LTA Scenarios at this stage.
INSTALLING AOME
==============
This release includes an install script called AOME Beta - 11.01.07. Running this program will install all the relevant files into the standard Age of Mythology folder structure. The install does not overwrite any existing files (unless you are reinstalling AOME).
Once the install finishes you can either click on the AOME icon or run the program AOMEmod and the game will load.
PLAYING AOME
============
Age of Middle Earth plays exactly like AOM:TT it just uses a different set of civilizations:
ELVES
MEN
DWARVES
MORDOR
I have updated most of the online help to assist in finding your way around.
Elves, Men and Mordor all have 3 Major Gods, Dwarves just the 1. In the dwarf category you will also find a Major God for the Fellowship and the Hobbit. These are basically there for LOTR type scenarios (for example when we merge AOME with LFS's Legends of the Third Age that will use the Fellowship stream).
You can play as the Fellowship, but this is a very different structure to the normal civs. You basically start with the four hobbits, who autogather food, wood, gold and favor on their adventures. They can then create the other members once they have the resources. The Fellowship civ also differs in that it has 8 ages and 9 god powers. These just coincide with parts of the book and provide a GP to help on the way. Unfortunately I haven't yet figured out a way to show all nine on the screen, so basically after age 4 if you haven't already used the god power you lose it (sorry!).

YAY! 80 DL's hm... Still it should have made the "latest news" by now.
@ Stephen Caines,
1) :) :) you also spelt bewbie wrong, I was trying to figure out who newbie was...
2) Your team wouldn't happen to need a text art maker would it?... (If you'r not quite sure what that is, Download Grid Lock and look in the veteran readme, or I could tell you, either one.
3) Also sorry for the unattached article :,(

FOR THOSE NOT SURE IF THEY SHOULD DOWNLOAD:
I have already dl'd this, and it is BY FAR the BEST mod on Age of mythology. There are 4 NEW CIVS THAT REPLACE THE OTHERS and they DONT SCREW UP THE GAME BECAUSE ITS A BAR MOD! So all you have to do is run the aomemod to play this mod, then run normal aom to play normally! Excellent modpack, and probably the best. |

I reach268 fully indorse this product with my stamp of aproval *stamps on Mod, accidently brakes it ekk* oh erm ahhh *re-downloads*
right! well now the comical bit is done (If your still reading im surprised) i will go on and say how good this MOD is.
(Paragraph of bugs i found dont read! unless you want to know the bugs to be removed hint hint!)
Apart from the unfinishedness of dwarves, the fact the hobbit civ does not work at all, the god power that should upgrade gandalf keeps turning into earthquake, theres a crash glitch if you try and view the history files of a few units (ork slingers as well add to yuor list of to fix :D), that some civs have tecs in random maps that require units from the other civs (the elves have some tecs that increase hobbit gather rates, which i can kinda say, ok for scenario perposes, but really it should be removed in random maps!), that some civs and god powers are highly inbalanced against each other(all those which spawn an instant army really, they do to much damage or last to long) and a few other little things that bugged me this is still GREAT- (well for a beta this betta inprove...)
(fun stuff you can read again!)
The elf and human civs are all well and fun, but its Mordor and the fellowship were the real fun are!
Mordor is great. Your heroic god decides what kind of fortress you get, and each has different units. do you go with sarumans huge defensive fortress option, with highly upgraded orks? or do you go for mumakills? the choices :D
The fellowship are also hillarious. thier first 2 god powers after the starting one spawn a horde of elves, which allthough not base destroying are a pain. then after that you get your "uber god powers oh doom"
going from a lota horses that dont have a time limit to the dead guys, which do have a time limit but eat buildings to finaly the upgrade for aragorn. :D
all together a great mod :D download it now or i will beat you (theoreticly)! once you see how good the beta is you wont beable to wait for the finished MOD! |

Wow, so it doesn't overwrite any of the LTA Mod?
Nice, I'm definetly downloading now.
PS: I'd say the reason this doesn't have 50 Trillion downloads already is because of the quite large file size. It would take someone on a dial-up modem about 6 hours just to download it! |

@newreach268: thanks for your comments, I will add the bugs to the growing list.
@Senior_man_face: it uses a separate files to LTA, though the next release will support the LTA FOTR scenarios (subject to LFS permission).
On the download front about 90% of the mod is textures and models. These items will not need to be upgraded in the final release. If people are worried about having to download it a couple of times, don't. The upgrade versions will be about 2MB and you will be able to skip upgrades. I will post a complete clean version (when its clean), but the beta plus final upgrade mod will give you the same thing.

Hey, i'm back.
I got a suggestion this time.
I realised that in AoMTT and aom, they have movies before the game opens and AoME doesn't. I know for some people it's actually annoying to keep on skipping the same one but... What you should do is get a couple of exciting battles from the movies and make a randomiser for the movie before the game to make people a little more interested than just the first time they open the game. I know that it would be a lot of hard work and I don't know how many people would actually watch it every time. I just think it would be a nice little extra for the game.

P.S. Names bewbie not newbie lol. |

@newreach268: Can you please provide some additional info on the crash with the Orc Slinger. I can't replicate this, but as I fixed the Elven Archer issue, I may have fixed that problem as well. Do you remember which minor gods and archer techs were active at the point it crashed, so I can confirm this.
@king alberich: Thanks! On the issue of campaigns, we are looking at the feasibility of a Legends of the Third Age/AoME merger. I have a release ready that lets you play the Fellowship of the Rings campaign via AoME, which I will release once LFS is happy with it, and if that goes ahead the future LTA releases (Two Towers and Return of the King) will be supported.
@bewbie: Sorry about the typo! On the movie front, I got a copy of the Bink Compiler for that purpose, but haven't had a chance to figure out how it works. Do you have any experience in this area? If so, wanna make a movie?
@Aomts_help911: The rockalldll.dll file comes with the original game (remember you need a copy of AoM:TT). If you haven't done a full load it will be on the install CD which will need to be online when you start AoME.
