==========================
The 13th Warrior (3 scenarios).
This Age of Mythology campaign is inspired by the film "The 13th Warrior" (by John McTiernan, 1999) with Antonio Banderas playing the Arab Ibn Fahdlan travelling to the Norseland.
The film is based on the novel "Eaters of the Dead" by Michael Crichton.
In AD 922, Arab courtier Ahmad Ibn Fahdlan accompanies a party of Vikings to the barbaric North. Ibn Fahdlan is appalled by the Vikings customs - their wanton sexuality, their disregard for cleanliness, their cold-blooded human sacrifices. And then he learns the horrifying truth: he has been enlisted to combat a terror that slaughters the Vikings and devours their flesh.
scen 1 : "Arab Ibns Exile" (Introduction and cinematic teaser)
Appointed ambassador. Make contact with barbarian tribes.
scen 2. "Help King Hrothgar"
The king and his wife have been unable tot stop their enemy's rampage.
scen 3. "Eaters of the Dead"
Deal with this formidable enemy in their underground base.

Boring.. ?
First scenario is a cinematic teaser.
It 's meant to be a introduction to the story.
I know it's not a hack and slash scenario !!!
Be patient.
2nd or 3th scenario, that's where the strategic challenge begins.
Tip to impatient player:
you can skip introscenario and load 2 or 3 as scenario instead of Campaign. |

I was Beta-tester at AoM NL.
I agree, second and thirth scenario contain more battles.
However, first scenario explains story well.
The introducing scenario uses many cinematic triggers and dialogs.
Maybe somewhat overdone, but I remember the design team telling they first needed to find out the magic of triggers.
Balance: 4
Played several prior versions. Updates improved balance
Creativity: 5
I personally like how cinematic exit and intro match.
Map Design: 4
Story/Instructions: 5
This is a decent story. More info then many other downloads I played.
Additional Comments:
If you are looking for instant battle, don't download a campaign "Role Playing Strategy"

I played this campaign once, yeti found many serius problems in gameplay. In the first scenario i decided not to run but to fight the enemies just to see the outcome.Agamemnon who was the main character got killed, yet i didn't lose. The scenario continued with nothing happening.Of course i had to quit and reload.
In the second scenario the objective was to kill the enemy towncenter.Well,i did but nothing happened again. So,the solution was CHANNEL SURFING.
Overall it was not a very fun campaign due to its problems and extrem simplicity. It contained three scenarios, but you could have done this job in only one.
Many details were not carefully taken care of,like i.e. the starting greek units that the player has in the first scenario, that are totally useless and irrelevant. The poor hyena didn't seem like a beast to me either.
The other two scenarios were mainly build and destroy.Starting in archaic age with minimal resources, made it very boring.A loss of time.I was too bored to finish the third scenario, because i had to do almost the same thing and start from zero point. You should have definately skip the archaic age and give the player more starting resources,or at least place more resources on the map.
Balance: 3
I played all three scenarios on modeterate level(i'm not sure if there were actually different difficulty levels, cause you didn't mention it),but the missions seemed quite easy. The first one was very easy but i won't rate it since you said it is something like an intro.
Creativity: 2
Nothing new there, objectives like kill the enemy towncenter in a build and destroy way are below average in terms of creativity IMO.There should be at least some kind of difference between the two main scenarios, but it they look the same just on different maps with different units. It seems like you thought of this campaign in a few minutes. And since you had already the story, your mission was easier,so you could have spend some time on adding some spice to it.I give a rating of 2,because it was the first "real" campaign(in .cpn format) in the download section.
Map Design: 2
The map design was average, but it lacked eyecandy. Not really eye catchy.Large part of the maps were practically useless, they just cost the player time to scout them. Some objects seemed irrelevant with their surroundings, like the i.e. the healing spring in the second map.
Story/Instructions: 1
The story and instructions were one of the weakest points of the campaign. It was obvious that you assumed that the player has watched the movie.Personally,i haven't,so i didn't quite understand the story. The instructions during the gameplay weren't very clear either.
The cinematics were also poorly done.It didn't seem you put enough effort on them. Most of them were just useless movements of the camera.
Additional Comments:
My comments are a bit harsh, but i believe i should tell you the truth, cause that's the best way to help.If i understood well, this must be your first project, but i think you rushed it too much.
Also,having your friends rate it,doesn't look so nice.[Edited on 02/21/03 @ 08:06 AM]

Thanks Kan_apo,
a clear review.
You are right in many things.
Maybe myself and beta-testers got exited in getting cpn + some special triggers work at all.
As you said, it's one of the first real campaign file (Since many designers are still trying to figure it out)
We focused on effects and forgot Gameplay.
Trial-and-error ... questions how ...
Without some decent manual, even working on simple ("boring") effect takes hours and hours.

Update to v 3.31, 2003-02-26
Campaign 13th_warrior
Scenario 2+3 : Trigger of quick upgrade to Age2 gives problem of not able to build Armory. So I replaced this by more startresources to Upgrade quickly.
Still not able improve AI activity with triggers.
This design is mainly focused on trigger effects in all sorts and getting the campaign menu work.
So look through eyes of Scenariodesign:
* triggers of intro and exit movies
* triggers of patrolling enemy
* triggers for messages and objectives
* triggers for Music and Dialog (using parts of Arkantos Campaign)
* Triggers for enemy reinforcements (Ghost Armies)
* Notepad edit of cpn-file to Create proper charts on Campaignmenu
I named and grouped triggers, so you can examine and/or improve things.

I playt this game and i got killt easely. And when i flyt with my pegasus over the ally's camp, i won the first scenario
Balance: 1
The enemy's are stronger or weaker then you, there's no fun about that!
Creativity: 3
The idea was nise, and you tried to imitate the movie, and you did well, but that's the only good thing.
Map Design: 2
some eye candy, but i mist the relics!
Story/Instructions: 1
i don't like the story, it's so simple, looks abbit like the standard campaign The fall of the trident!
Additional Comments:
try harder next time, whe have no need for such bad campaings![Edited on 08/20/03 @ 03:59 AM]

As I said,
I know it's not the most exiting campaign.
It should be improved, but I 'm not an AoM-edittor fan.
Still many Downloads, in spite of low 1,8 rating ?
I'll try to contact experienced editors in our dutch RTSholland community to improve stuff.
So maybe later versie 4.0
