Trying out a new god and got hammered by the tactic I usually use. I caught some stuff I did (I got got villies a little late, and got housed for a bit and my second gold villie was idle for a while). Please critique me on what I did wrong. Only 10-15 mins or so. |

Rating: 1
(Insert Rating analysis here)
GOOD THINGS:
- U chose the right god vs a rusher (Ares)
- I saw a bit micro ( focus firing on Einherjar)
- U attacked his temple builder which is very good!
BAD THINGS:
- u did not use the AQ option which is one of AOT's best features
- u did not have any economical upgrades at all.
- no armor upgrades
- almost no militairy upgrades except medium archers.
- at the start you sent your villagers to the berries not to the nearby hunting.
- no Hunting Dogs on a high food map?
- When the berries where depleted, you walked ur food vills all over your base to get to the chickens while the hunting was way closer.
- You might want to work on your advance time.
a 6:15 classical might work well vs booming civs like other Hades or Gaia for example but is not the right thing to do vs a rusher.
You might want to aim for a 5:00-5:10 classical here.
- He did not Loki rush you.
He was classical at 5:28, while a Loki rusher ages around 4:30. His first attack came somewhere within the 6th minute, so it really wasn't a rush.
- Hades is one of the hardest gods to rush, how on earth did you let him own you with that little militairy units?
All you had to do was go with ur scout to his forward base, pestilenceing his buildings ( you did way to late, at the point in the game when you had nothing and he had absolute control ) and then attacked with your 2 heroes, free cyclops + another cyclops + 5894628 toxotes. That owns any norse foward build.
You just where way to passive.
Also, NEVER EVER garrison all your villagers when 1 group gets attacked. Simply walk them to another safe spot.
Additional Comments:
Next time you face a civ that will try to rush ( Loki, Kronos, Oranos, sometimes Thor ) go for a 5:00 classical ( 7/4/4/1 or a 7/4/5/1 build up ) with Hunting dogs researched.
Also for the next time, when you see a guy buildinh the temple, keep attacking him! It will distract him and since it will probably be his only temple, it will delay his advance time! You can completely negate a rush when harassing the temple. Also if you have any villagers nearby, use them to take the temple down. It will cost you some eocnomy, but you can be already advancing, leaving him without a temple, which means he cannot do the rush he planned, means his economy will be crap, means its 95% chance on a GG for you.
VS NORSE:
2 heroes + cyclops + xxx archers + pestilence = gg
VS ATTIES:
Pestilence, hoplites + hippikons + heroes.
VS Krush ( Kronos )
Temple in the back of your base, use 7/3/4 build up, get your archaic hero + sentinels, get classical , get classical hero + free cyclops, spam hippikons and gg.
other civs probably won't rush. |

Thanks for the review.
"u did not use the AQ option which is one of AOT's best features"
I dunno how to AQ. Care to tell me?
"no Hunting Dogs on a high food map?"
Yah, I really screwed that up.
"Hades is one of the hardest gods to rush, how on earth did you let him own you with that little militairy units?"
That's what I'd like to know.
"Next time you face a civ that will try to rush ( Loki, Kronos, Oranos, sometimes Thor ) go for a 5:00 classical ( 7/4/4/1 or a 7/4/5/1 build up ) with Hunting dogs researched."
What is the 1 at the end? Temple builder?
As for the rest of the stuff, I definitely need to work on, so thanks again. Hope you will follow up on aq and the 1 at the end of the BO.

Just reading up on some reviews, I believe the 1 at the end would be a temple praying guy (Not necessary for other races, due to alternative methods of favor gathering)
[EDIT]
I have been roaming these forums for so long, and I finally found an unanswered question that I could answer! Unfortunately, I am not a roamer any more... I posted... meh. [Edited on 10/21/07 @ 08:01 PM]

about the 1, he is right, thats the temple builder who goes praying afterwards.
About AQ, in the bottom of your screen when you have a building selected, you will see a green arrow icon. Click on it to activate the AQ.
Oh yes, vs races that are moderately agressive in classical ( like Gaia for example ) you might want to do a tox cyclops spam ( that will come down to something like the following)
HD researched
8-9 food
4 -5 gold
5-6 wood
2-3 temple.
That way you can spam archers + cyclops.
Archers own heroes and infantry, cyclopses take care of the rest. However in the case of gaia, since many attie players mass turmae in classical you might want to add some hippikons into your army to take care of the turma threat before they turminate your army&econ. |
