AoM: The Titans |
With the help of KingDoofus, I was able to complete a big map, Asia. I know it said "Asian Wars", so you would expect to start out with an old man and pick your settlement. Well, I did not make it like that, so when you play, you'll begin with a town center. This map includes:
-A cinematic that KingDoofus helped me out with =)
-East Africa, Middle East, some of Eastern Europe, and of course, Asia
-Named settlements
-Hopefully accurate geography
After playing or looking at this, please point out anything I can do to make this map better. I would also like a review, or two. I hope that my idea for a map of Asia was unique. By the way, I am Israeli_Camel. Enjoy, and thanks!!! |

Hey, didn't get a chance to play this one online, yet, so I'm not going to write a formal review.
I'll get down to business after this sentence, but I really liked your map. Here's stuff you could work on (although this is more advice than anything else):
Just remember that there are currently 17,384 realistic maps of an area that are played Supremacy-Style. It’s not that you have to do something different than all these other maps, but you have to do it better. You picked THE hardest genre to make a map in, because basically every map has been done, and everyone knows everything about Supremacy, and we’re all looking for a new interesting twist on the gameplay.
Map:

1) Hope you spot some differences.
2) You should probably stagger your textures. Grassdirt B is cool, but an entire screen of it looks unrealistic. Even just mixing it up with Grassdirt A or Grass B goes a long way to making your map look more realistic. Especially since you now have the general appearance of the land (except snow in Russia) it shouldn’t be too hard.
3) This is an ancient world game. What’s with the modern names? What about Assyria and Babylon? In fact, if anything, the ancient cultures are MORE interesting than the modern stuff (unless Israel vs. Everyone is interesting to you).
Gameplay:
1) Omg, the popup is so annoying. I read it the first time!
2) Moving the pop limit to 300 removes the ability for teams to win. In the late-late game, teams have basically infinite resources with some limitations. Generally, though, if you are smart with your military and run from losing battles (and you have max villagers and keep making caravans), you’ll have more resources than you can spend. The limiting factor is population. Players fight over Town Centers because killing a Town Center takes away about 5 troops from every conflict with the enemy. If you manage to steal the Town Center, it’s like a 10 troop swing in your favor. With 300 pop to everyone, you take away that advantage.
If you still want large armies, move the bonus pop to 100 (or better yet increase the limit on houses to 20 and Manors to 10). This way you can actually step-ladder your way to victory instead of throwing your infinite resources at each other until one team resigns.
3) Consider limiting the number of farms players can make (not sure how this could be done, you might consider banning them altogether and placing maybe 3ish farms around each TC with some extras spread around). This would create a food shortage on land and force players to look to the oceans for sustenance. Then the naval battles would actually mean something and players would have to find a balance between winning the seas and winning the land. It would also give Atlanteans a much-needed advantage since Atlanteans are terribad endgame.
4) Random events like Rain, extra God Powers, Prosperity, boosts to a random unit (or civilization), day/night cycles.
5) You have to ban Wonders or do something about their OPness (in large games, it quickly becomes both the quickest and most effective way to win as well as nearly unstoppable with so many constructing defenses). You should *probably* ban Titans because a fast titan could actually win the game, especially with donated resources, you could dig a titan out at 10:00. To win the game, I’d want to see something risky like a triple rush or something (or a late-game battle royale).
