Uh, well it was simple, straightfoward and without bugs, I suppose. A good start for a first map. You've mastered the basic triggerwork needed to make a decent scenario, and so this map was short, sweet, and to the point. But to me, the gamer, it all felt like a load of busywork without challenge. Your characters (assuming you got the help of the other village chief) were essentially overpowered which made the tasks (All wholly two of them) seem meaningless and boring. Just an upgrade in balance would've got you a three here, or perhaps just a little more flair with an opening or closing cinematic. Its not a bad scenario, meh, it was decent, but it wasn't the kind of material of a 4 or 5.
Balance: 1
Overpowered. Killing the alligator thing was wicked easy, and the bandits were far too simple to defeat. Maybe a few more tasks other than the standard find and kill and perhaps more strength on the bandits part would've upped your score here.
Creativity: 2
The tasks weren't outstandingly original whatsoever. Find and kill has been done before a million times in a million different ways, but the premise of the plot and gist of it is enough for a two. The more twists and turns, surprises and tasks a scenario has, the more likely it is to be creative, and this just didn't have enough substance to get anywhere.
Map Design: 2
It was more than a GrassA map with bad guys at the other end, but not a whole lot more. You had some eyecandy in there, but eh nothing great. The village was just a bunch of houses with some villagers here and there, a little bit of terrain mixing, some cliffs, but it looked like a supremacy map with a few characters put on it to me.
Story/Instructions: 3
I always knew what to do next I'll give you that. The instructions were very clear, but the story was kind of lacking. You enlist the help of the nearby village, and go kill the bandits. That's it. The scenario simply wasn't lengthy enough to merit a well thought out story.
Additional Comments:
A good start, for a first map. Sure, it wasn't amazing or spectacular, but it had a bugless plot with some eyecandy that made it a somewhat playable scenario. With some experimentation, and using some tricks from the guides in the Scenario Design forum I'm sure you could easily improve this map. |
