Treason

Author File Description
Istari
File Details
Version: AoM
This scenario is about a Cyclops named Polyphemus who is part of the great empire called the Cycloptian League. It has two radically different storylines, depending on if you decide to take the path to power and evil, or to good and justice. There are plenty of characters to help you along the way.
You MUST read the Treason readme file first, for a background history, and some other notes as well. It is meant to be played on 'Easy' mode (it's not actually that easy). By Istari.

This scenario proudly recieved the honour of appearing in Gamestar Magazine, Germany's biggest PC gaming magazine.

There is no notisable bugs that permit a person from playing, except maybe in the Good side when I had diffuculty casting the Forest Fire in the right place.

Balance: 5
Very good, except maybe that the final battle might be a bit complicated since you need to use the healing miracle many times.

Creativity: 5
Well, it's preaty original. One of the few RPG-like games where the protagonist didnt go on a quest because his family got killed or ect. ect. Good use of some of those special effects.

Map Design: 5
The design is realistic and in some places breath taking. Nothing overly fancy to slow down your computer and nothing to plain to make you just throw up. There is also some really nice effects involved, and when I say nice effects I dont just mean that old leaves falling to the ground stuff.

Story/Instructions: 4
Preaty clear. I got stumped (as I said earlier) on the forest fire part and also I rushed into the underworld passage not realizing that it will just teleport me there. So I had trouble with that.

Additional Comments:
A preaty fun game, can get you hooked until you won. Beside a few mediocre defects here and there, which are only based on human error, the scenario is preaty good. Yes, there is no cinematics, but the scenario's overrall experience makes up for that. If you like to play at least 1 or 2 custom scenarios or if you're a big custom scenario's player, this map is worth while to download.

It was fun at times, but I felt it was geting repetive. Do this, do that. Yeah. Ok. It was unique at time and I liked that, but the general atmosphere was beyond what can be explained in words. But thats a good thing, right?

Balance: 3
Its obvious that you're meant to win this scenario with little effort. I think scenarios should of this genre should REQUIRE alt things in order to complete them. I mean, if theres going to be side quests type of things, why not make them worth your time. It's pointless if you can win just as easy without them.

Creativity: 4
This was probally one of the best qualites. Its good to adapt old things and make them better.

Map Design: 3
I hate to give it such a low score but I saw nothing special. It looked poorly laid out with less eye candy then even a random map.

Story/Instructions: 5
This was, obviousally, the best quality of the scenario. Everything was planned well and triggered well. Good job.

Additional Comments:
Great Map, but in the scenario design world, gaps need to be filled.

Quality over Quanity.

The game is impossible to play, it has too many bugs. Whenever I try to go towards the dwarves they attack me. Even after I enter their city they still attack me. Then when I reset the game and went to the other way, after I attacked the human village, Polyphemus got stuck in hades and couldn't escape (I had to use cheats to get him out of there).

Balance: 2
It is far too easy. A demented monkey could win this game. The game is hardly balanced at all.

Creativity: 5
It is a very original scenario. Finally, an RPG that isn't about revenge or saving a family member. It is a great game in this respect.

Map Design: 4
It has some very good eye candy. The cyclopian city is very beautifully made.

Story/Instructions: 5
The instructions are simple and there isn't one second where you don't know what you are supposed to do. The story is very good also.

Additional Comments: This scenario has a very nice-looking map and has an excellent story, but it isn't very fun to play. All you do is run around with a group of myth units and kill hordes of enemies. It would be more fun if it had been more challenging, and you had the ability to make choices in the game. And of course, you'd HAVE to fix the bugs before the scenario could work.

Very nice scenario, Istari! I played the scenario twice - taking a different path each time. So, I have experienced the whole map. Also, I'm used to playing The Titans, but I'll try to remember that this scenario was made in Vanilla to give you a fair review. :)

Playability: 5
The map was very playable and all the triggers seemed to have ran smoothly. I didn't come across any bugs or anything to effect the playability. Also, the whole scenario was entertaining so I never got bored. I thought the final boss battles were very fun and they were created very nicely. Some cinematics would have been nice, but I understand that you didn't want to try and work with them. The scenario didn't lag at all, so that's good. Although, you could've added a little bit more eye-candy and still have a great scenario that doesn't lag. :)

Balance: 4
The balance was fair. Most of the map was just right though there were a few areas that were either too hard or too easy. The gladiator arena was a little too hard for my taste. There were just too many heroes for Polyphemus(sp?) to fight. Maybe you could replace some of these enemy heroes with regular units so that they aren't as strong. The final boss battles were pretty nicely balanced as you were granted restoration powers at just the right times and the dragon and Poseidon came to help you in the end depending on what path you took. Overall, it was pretty nice just look over my suggestions and it could be a bit better.

Creativity: 5
Very, very creative! I loved the storyline and the two possible outcomes! Pretty much everything was very creative including the storyline, dialog, the arena, and the battles. I loved how you added Skult as a sort of mysterious figure and you didn't know anything about him or if he was good or evil. You also had a nice use of special effects and embelishments in the scenario. For instance, I liked how you used the Osiris Birth embelishment during some of the battles and for the dark magic. I'm sure the creativity in this scenario has inspired a lot more creative scenarios and will inspire even more in the near-future.

Map Design: 4
Map design was fair for a AoM Vanilla map. The cyclops town was very nicely designed, as was the mountain where you fought the Guardian of Light. I would recommend adding more nature objects like grass and wild animals to enhance the map and use some more elevation as the map was fairly flat. Also, work on the terrain mixing. You didn't use a whole lot of terrains and the terrain wasn't blended. For example, right outside of the lush grass city, there was a desert with a dried out oasis. This didn't really look natural.

Story/Instructions: 4
The story was amazing! I haven't played many maps with such an entertaining and creative story. Great job. Though, the instructions could've used a bit of work. In some parts of the scenario I was a little confused as to what to do because not enough objectives popped up to explain what to do throughout the whole scenario. There were nice objectives for the main points, but for example, after you killed the creatures in the dwarven mines, an objective did not come up telling you what to do. So, I just looked around in the town before learning that I was supposed to go outside of the town to battle the cyclop bounty hunters. The dialog you used was very nice and well planned out and written. Fantastic job, I loved the story! :)

Additional Comments:
Again, great job Istari! :) And, it's awesome that your scenario got mentioned in that German gaming magazine!
Also, the cliff-hangers at the end where Hades (or what is it Skult?) predicted the future were fantastic. The whole scenario was entertaining.

Btw, I also loved both The Hobbit and Sorcery. :)

This map was playable in every way. There was only one area with a bug. The bugged area is when on the side of Cyclopses where Hades takes you to his realm, sometimes you don't get teleported back.

Balance: 5
This was perfectly balanced. The only part where Ihad trouble was at the Gaurdian battle on the Cyclops side. I had to keep casting Restorations, but that adds to the difficulty.

Creativity: 5
I've never seen a Cyclops based RPG. I like the fact how it was based off of Polyphemus and not Gargeransis.

Map Design: 5
The map design was fair. It wasn't too ugly, but wasn't to good. The part that got this a five was the elven realm and Hades underworld. They were perfect.

Story/Instructions: 4
The objectives sometimes came late. They also wern't as descriptive somtimes. But I figured it out.

Additional Comments:
You should make a second one. At both sides they saw either The Guardian will rise again and on the Cyclops side Hades said the war between elves and dwarves will soon start. It would be cool if you made a second one. :D
