AoM: The Titans |
Wayfarer: A Single Player Scenario
By Tombit
The sun is hot and your lips are dry. You lick them as you slowly open your eyes. A desert scene surrounds you. You do not know where you are, you do not remember how you got there.
You don't know who you are.
Wayfarer is a linear single player scenario for Age of Mythology: The Titans. You find yourself in an unknown land full of creatures, bandits and danger. Travel the sparse desert landscape, complete tasks and favours for friendly acquaintances and complete your destiny; play to find out!
To install:
Simply open the .zip file and extract "Wayfarer - Tombits.scx" into your Age of Mythology: The Titans scenario folder (default location: mydocuments/mygames/ageofmythology/scenario).
Much thanks for the download, and I hope you enjoy!

Playability: 5
The playability was great! The ability to do stuff for people was really cool. You could preety much go anywhere. I liked looking for secret things and all that good stuff.
Balance: 5
The balance was good. You can improve your attack and armour as you go throughout the game. The different myth units and soldiers you had to fight weren't too easy or too hard.
Creativity: 5
The creativity was EXCELENT! Great things to do; quests(or missions) were cool. You did combine buildings and name things and people.
Map Design: 5
The map design was superb. Great eyecandy. Great mixing of terrain, great placing of trees and rocks and cliffs.
Story/Instructions: 5
The instructions were well layed out. You had objectives to explain what you have to do and you had them sayed right when you were starting something new.
Additional Comments: I highly reccomend download for this map. You should definatly make a second adventure. I wish I could make RPG's as well as you. Or well at least RPG's. This map deserves a 5! Keep up the good work!

You should try and lengthen that review to 3 lines per category. |

I would review, but Baske pretty much summed it up. However, the only thing is that a 3.6 review really doesn't seem to do justice to this. I played a lot of the lower-top files here, and they weren't as good as this. |

@ Baske,
Thank you for the review, it was very detailed and pointed me towards a few of the weaker elements in this scenario. I'll address a few points here:
"When the final unit came from the back he always ran straight for an Ox Cart, no matter how many units I put on the task of killing it. As a result a dead Ox Cart in 3 blows. I ended up pulling some very inventive moves to stop it, and have the Einharjers follow my priest walking down the village, so they wouldn't intervene."
This part of the scenario was designed with replayability in mind. If it is possible, but takes a few goes to succeed, that's the perfect balance.
"The map wasn't overly creative, because it lacked depth. Quests about finding one's son have been used so many times, as have the 'defend my building' type of quests."
This was one of the negative bi-products of using a map size and shape like I did. I agree with you here.
"This was unfortunately your weakest point. As mentioned in the creativity part, it lacked depth. The game started simply with: 'where am I?', but I figured maybe you implemented it in the storyline, and I would find out later on. Sadly this very important question, and basically the reason I kept on playing, was never answered. You ended just as succint as you began. The story was sadly unsatisfying."
I absolutely understand. I somewhat overhyped the storyline in this with my showcase in the forums, and really didn't address anything. I am planning to do either a prequal or a sequal at some point, with a much deeper storyline.
Although, I do feel that the instructions and objectives in the game were clear and concise, I was hoping that would warrent a slightly higher rating in the "Story/Instructions" catagory.
Thanks again Baske, I really appreciate it. :)
@ aZeusdude,
I'm very happy with your review! Haha. I'm glad you enjoyed the map, thanks.
@ Jimmy2,
Thanks for playing, feel free to review anyway![Edited on 10/13/08 @ 02:22 AM]

I understand your point here, the 2 may have been personal bias (although a review wouldn't be mine if it weren't personally biased): I value story over instructions. A strong story can give a scenario a severe edge, whereas clear instructions merely take away annoyance of not knowing what to do.
I enjoyed playing the scenario, very much. I wouldn't have downloaded it if I didn't (this was the first DL I made in like 2 months, maybe 3 - 4, that should say something about how you got me excited). |

Sorry to rain on your parade Tombit :s
aZeusdude, your review has been retracted because it does not comply with AoMH's Review Guidelines. I believe that Yeebaagooon warned you that your review would be retracted unless you made required adjustments.
Read the Review Guide lines found at the top left corner of the page or at this location;
http://aom.heavengames.com/reviewguide
The main reason that it was taken away was that it was too short... strive to make it around 3 lines minimum.
Read up on them and I won't be bothering you again :D ~ Khan

On another sad note, I think that it would be in your best interest that I don't review this scenario; that is only if you care about it's rating. I think that I just expected more from the showcase. to give you an idea on what I would score you:
Play: 3
Balance: 3
create: 3
Map: 5
Story: 2
it would be around that score give or take a point or two ~ Steak[Edited on 10/16/08 @ 07:37 AM]
