AoM: The Titans |
This is my first ever map I have made in AOM and I hope you guys enjoy it. Two towns from the real world fight off against each other in an epic battle. Use the road in the middle surrounded by trees to get to your enemies base, but be aware they can also be using it to get to you... Please Comment praise, criticize, and review my first ever map |

What on earth? I absolutely agree with former moderator Yeebaagooon and map designer mogul Khan And Steak about this file. Below are my opinions about this map:
Playability: 1
Me and my enemy are both Greeks, but start with some several non-greek buildings that mostly have little use. I also start with a large number of houses, so I don't need to build any more housing to support my growing population. Resources, like wood, are extremely limited, and therefore I must be considerate when it comes to training units or researching techs that are needed most. Both my city and my enemy's had no walls that enclose the city, and therefore makes it harder to defend the city from my enemy's attacks. (or much easier for me to attack my enemy's city)
Balance: 1
The enemy almost never attacked me, even on harder difficulties, mainly because resources like gold mines are almost nonexistent. Its base is completely open to attacks from any direction and therefore I used my not-so-superb micromanagement skills to defeat him on Titan difficulty. Making the enemy stronger like make him have a bigger city, more units and resources, would make this category score much higher.
Creativity: 1
" "Just go from A to B with a big army and attack" Well, that is kind of the point of aom. "
Really? Just REALLY?! That's the only point of Age of Mythology? That's the only point of a game which can be turned into basically anything? Like an RPG, a short movie, a parody, or even a feature-length film?! WHY YOU...ahem. You shouldn't underestimate what Age of Mythology can give you, triplehrox08. Anything's possible when you have the idea and the will to achieve that idea. Maybe something like a Safari-themed scenario would work?
Map Design: 1
The entire map is an eyesore. It is basically a large blank map filled with GrassA with the edges of a normal-sized blank map still very visible. There is an empty North Atlantic type body of water on the Northwest part of the map which is extremely unfitting to the surrounding terrain. Sure there is a path with signs and several trees surrounding it, but everybody can do that. Neutral settlements are scattered across this empty plain of a map, and no one wants to live or build anything in an empty plain.
Story/Instructions: 1
The names of each player reminded me of sport teams, mostly soccer. Other than that, there is absolutely no story that explains the scenario's situation at all. The instructions in the objectives banner are straightforward, but are littered with some grammatical errors and excessive use of exclamation marks.
Additional Comments:
Look, just because you're a first timer here doesn't mean you have the audacity to say that Age of Mythology's only point is "Just go from A to B with a big army and attack". If the point of Age of Mythology is really "Just go from A to B with a big army and attack", then this game would be pretty much obscure by now. Do you know why several other games that are as old or even older than AoM are still popular? Because they're diverse, extremely addictive and entertaining, have charm, and not the same thing over and over again. AoM has all those qualities too, so like I said before in the Creativity section, anything's possible when you have the idea and the will to achieve that idea. Read the scenario design tips pages, as well as download a few highly-rated files from the 'Design Hints, Tips, and Tutorials' category and learn from those. You WILL get better! ;) |
