AoM: The Titans |
I'm back!
After a long break from AoM Modding, I'm back, but this time I'm only making Multiplayer compatible mods.
I made this mod because I liked Dnas' Promethean upgrade texture (included in this pack), but I didn't like the fact that Prometheus was trowing bronze colored Prometheans, when he is himself not bronze colored.
To make it simple:
When Alluvial Clay is researched, Prometheus, Prometheans, Prometean Offsprings and Prometheus Fire Balls have a different texture. When it is not researched they are that same green color from before.
V1.1 Update:
I fixed Prometheus' death animation when upgraded. I tried to make the cinematic animation change texture when upgraded, but failed and realized the problem wasn't the anim file, but the model files. Sorry. :(
Note: This mod will overwrite the Earth Elemental's texture from CrazyDragon's Titan Project.

Okay, lets get down to buisness: I gave it 2 points as a platform average to start from. I gave your mod an additional point because for the texture color, it looked like the promethean units were actually made out of mud and dirt, and they should, because in mythology, the prometheans were made out of clay. Your 4th point came from the texture mod activating when you research alluvial clay. This allows downloaders of the mod to still be able to see the old texture if they like it, and I like this because I mark it as originality, because the name alluvial "clay" just shouts that a new texture should be present when researched. Review edit: There are no problems/bugs with this whatsoever, and so I award you the rare and coveted 5th point! Congratulations!!!
Additional Comments:
This is quite a good looking mod. I really liked the new color for the promethean units. I do think they look more realistic now and with the alluvial clay activating it, I can still enjoy the old texture. I did download it and playtest it before I wrote this review. Oh, and if you aren't too busy, I suggest that you make new textures for the other atlantean myth units to make them look better. Very impressive job!!!

Thank you WinstonShnozwick for the review and thank you for pointing out that it doesn't have a death animation when upgraded.
The reason why it doesn't have one is because of a typo in the anim file.
I will update the file when I get the chance and maybe I will also add the cinematic animation. |

Cool, I'll redownload it when you update. I would suggest also that if you could, "spiff up" some of those other atlantean myth units. Because when the titans expansion came out, those atlantean stuff just look like they were put together too quickly and they just dont look very good in game. One that I would like a change for is the lampedas texture. [Edited on 06/19/09 @ 04:16 PM]

Hey would you be able to teach me or tell me how to modding and texture changes to stuff for the game? I have wanted to be able to do this kind of stuff for a while but I have no idea how to do so. :P |

Excellent, this mod looks great. It is one of those simple yet effective mods. I am taking it you justr changed the hue of the texture to make it darker? Either way the unit looks much more realistic now, it looks like it was made from clay and dirt. Very well done.
Changing it so that the texture changed when the alluvial clay upgrade was made was smart, every other unit changes when they upgrade, so why shouldn't this one :p.

Great work mate!

I've Updated the file.
@ WinstonShnozwick
Will do, I've just uploaded an Argus upgrade texture as a matter of fact. It should be up for download by tomorrow.
As for teaching you how to mod textures, it's very simple all you need is AoMEd and a good Image Manipulation Program. (GIMP, Photoshop, Fireworks)
First convert the .BAR file with AoMEd by clicking "Set input data file", when it's done convert the desired texture for .DDT to .BMP and back again with "Direct file conversion".
That was the very, very short version, if you want more info, I could send you an email.
@ JDmino
Thanks for the review.
Yes, I changed the hue, but I also changed the saturaturation and brightness. Simple, I know.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. |
