AoM: The Titans |
Teaser: Secretname RPG
Showcase: This is a single player scenario, such as most cinematics.
Like I just said, it's a short cinematic that will act like a prouloge for my upcoming RPG (Should be coming around july 2010).
It will be 10 - 20 minutes long.
It's a small map (200 x 200) so it wont be too laggy...
Concept: The cinematic will be split into two parts:
First, it's the city part (An egyptian city, though not egyptian in my RPG as Egypt doesn't exist named Akhbar).
The second part is the so called "cave part", an underworld scene.
The story will be hard to understund, sorry for that, but it's a teaser and I'm saving most for the real RPG.
Story: It's a completely normal day in the city of Akhbar.
Caravans and villagers are passing by, people trade and nothing happens.
But two men are talking in the shadow, they are planning something. And so, all by the sudden, the sun darkens... A creature appears..
Features:
# Some descent eyecandy
# Some special effects
# New lighting
# New custom sound
# Small playable part
# Infinite leveling
# A boss battle
# Two small quests and a secret

Haha, I guess it looks a little like it with the stone fence and collumn usage.
But don't worry, not much of the map looks like that. :p |

I played some today, it was a really cool starting cinematic. I'll try to review once I finish it, (I died on my first attempt) you weren't kidding about it being hard. |

Thank you noth, and yes, I find really hard scenarios more intresting to play than easy ones. Here are a few tips:
*Don't go straight to the boss, it's too much enemies.
*When going for the boss, use Hotkey 6 to kill the enemies attacking
*Try to attack as few units at the same time
*Sniper units with bow so they take damage before they reach you
*Get healing potion before going to boss
*Heal when injured using hotkey 5
*Always read instructions |

Haha, it's alright. ;p
Very much looking forward to the review, and see what I can improve with this. (Except the eyecandy, I know it sucks :p) |

Playability: 5
Well worth the play, I really enjoyed it and had fun playing. The starting cinematic was pretty cool, however lag caused me to not enjoy it as much as I could have. There was a bit with the purple smoke. The hotkeys were set out really well, and you had to utilize all of them to stay alive. The boss battle was also very good. I liked the how you had to do things, which I had better not say, to win.
Update: It's already a 5, but the playability got better although I can't give it more.
Balance: 4
The balance was really good, at first I thought it was too hard, but once I got the hang of it, it was really fun. Then I started to think it was a bit too easy, as I could use my special move and kill all enemies in the vicinity. However, the boss battle performed really well and you had to use strategy to win so it wasn't just one of those battles where you hack a the enemy for 5 minutes and win.
Update: It was a lot harder. I thought it perhaps too hard, I struggled through out it, so I think that it should be made a little easier. Oh, and perhaps putting difficulty levels in would make it even better.
Creativity: 4
Creativity was really good, there were multiple hotkeys, different quests and the levelling system was really advanced. The special power had some great special effects and I liked how you made it. Being able to switch between bow, hero and sword isn't really new, but it left room to use strategy to win.
Update: There wasn't anything really new, but the overall feel was a little better, but it won't go up to 5.
Map Design: 4.5
Map design probably deserves a five. There were great buildings and the underworld scene looked pretty good. I especially liked how you made the city of Akmar or whatever it was. But some things just didn't look that great, there were places where you left a bit of stuff untouched or that's what it looked like and some things were a bit sloppy. But I suppose compared to my map designing it was really great.
Update: There wasn't really too much of a change, but it got a little better and it probably deserved to be higher anyway so I rated it a 5.
Story/Instructions: 5
As you said many times it is a teaser so you aren't supposed to know what's going on. But I thought you caught the scene pretty well and I found out a bit about the main character, etc. The instructions were limited, maybe some about the boss battle might have been better, but overall they told you what to do, and the hints gave hints and so on. The story looks like it could be really good, I'm looking forward to GoO.
Update: They got quite a bit better which makes them worth a 5. (wouldn't want to spoil it.)
Additional Comments:
Have you made any progress on the actual RPG yet? I really enjoyed this one Guard. I never knew you were so good at designing, I suppose it comes naturally with all the maps you've reviewed. :P Good luck with it and Dark TImes.[Edited on 03/05/10 @ 02:32 AM]
